Eater Boston is reporting that Thunder Road is planning to open on Somerville Avenue on the western edge of Union Square, taking over the former Radio space. (Radio closed in the fall of 2013 due to an electrical fire, and never reopened.) Based on a page within the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts site, the group opening Thunder Road--Chuckmaster Entertainment--apparently has promoter Dan Millen behind it, along with Charles Abel, who was a co-owner of the now-closed Harpers Ferry music club in Allston, according to a article in Vanyaland.
It appears that Thunder Road may be a rock club, though this has not been confirmed as of yet; as soon as we find out more information about the place, we will post an update here.
[August 5 update: An email from Dan Millen indicates that Thunder Road will indeed be a live music venue.]
[September 16 update: It looks like Thunder Road is one step closer to reality, as DigBoston states that the place has been awarded a liquor license as well as an entertainment license. Next up are approval by the state and "considerable" renovations, so it could be awhile before Thunder Road opens.]
[March 27, 2015 update: According to a new post from Eater Boston, a test menu from Thunder Road shown via its Facebook page includes such items as eggs florentine, quinoa-stuffed avocado, a jalapeno burger, bourbon BBQ ribs, and banana caramel flat pancakes.]
[August 25, 2015 update: Vanyaland states that Thunder Road's grand opening is September 8.]
The address for Thunder Road is 379 Somerville Avenue, Somerville, MA, 02143.
