The Salem space where an English pub had been until recently has been bought by a chef from a nearby restaurant.
According to a source, Tim Caldwell of Grapevine on Congress Street has purchased the site on Essex Street where The Old Spot had been until closing at the end of July. A check on Caldwell's Facebook page has confirmed this, though it does not appear that a name has been given to the place, nor is it known exactly what kind of spot it will be. Caldwell says that if all goes as planned, the new restaurant could be open in December.
The address for the now-closed Old Spot (and the new restaurant from Tim Caldwell) is 121 Essex Street, Salem, MA, 01970.
[February 22, 2015 update: According to several sources--including its Facebook page--the new restaurant taking over The Old Spot's space is now open, and it is called Olde Main Street Pub (as mentioned earlier in the comments section here by one of our readers). The place does not have a website yet, but it sounds like the menu includes a mix of pub grub, comfort food, and both classic American and New American items.]
