Naco Taco Is Opening in Cambridge

It looks like a new restaurant may be opening by the MIT campus in Cambridge, and based on its name, it could be focusing on Mexican fare--though this has not been confirmed as of yet.

A License Commission General Hearing page within the City of Cambridge website indicates that Naco Taco is looking to open on Mass. Ave., with the address being that of the now-closed Lotte Market a couple of blocks east of the Main Street intersection. The dining spot is applying for a beer and wine license and plans to have seating for 74 inside with another 64 on an outdoor patio, and it could be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if its proposed hours of 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM Sunday through Wednesday and 8:00 AM to 1:00 AM Thursday through Saturday remain in place. As of now, there doesn't appear to be much more information about Naco Taco other than its manager being Alex Tannenbaum, who has been involved in the Speakeasy Group (Storyville, Minibar, Tunnel, Sweet Cheeks, Tavern Road, Bread + Butter, Vine Brook Tavern).

[October 30 update: Boston Magazine gives a bit more information on Naco Taco--in addition to Alex Tannenbaum being involved, Michael Scelfo of Alden & Harlow in Cambridge's Harvard Square and Brian Lesser of the Speakeasy Group will also be partners, and the dining spot--which could be opening in early 2015--will be a taqueria.]

[May 11, 2015 update: Eater Boston confirms what a poster on the Chowhound site said over the weekend, that Naco Taco opens its doors today (apparently at 11:00 AM). EB also says that the new restaurant offers tacos with a variety of fillings--including fish, beef, lamb, pork, and veggie--and that beer, wine, and sangria are all available.]

The address for this new restaurant by MIT is: Naco Taco, 297 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02139.
