UFood Grill Eyeing Nationwide Expansion

A Boston-based group of fast-casual food service restaurants is planning a major expansion of its brand.

According to a press release from the PR Newswire site, UFood Grill has debuted "a new prototype for a traditional in-line design" that the business will look to franchise across the country, including one coming to the Greater Boston area by early 2016. Based on information from the release, it appears that the company wants to expand from "non-traditional" sites (airports, universities, government buildings, military bases) to more public spots, with UFood referring to the creation of locations on "Main Street across America." According to UFood Grill CEO Sal Rincione, the new prototype that will be franchised across America puts the company "at a historic moment in its history."

UFood Grill, which was formerly known as Know Fat Lifestyle Grille, once had a number of locations in public spots, including stores in Downtown Crossing, the Fenway, and Watertown. The company went bankrupt in late 2012 and ultimately shut down all "traditional" locations, with the only local shops currently residing at Logan Airport (2) in East Boston. (Other than a location at the University at Albany in New York and another at the FAA Building in Washington, DC, there are no other stores within 1,000 miles of Boston at this point in time.)
