Anthony's Pier 4 Building to Be Demolished in the Spring of 2016

It looks like the building where a landmark Boston restaurant had once been will be demolished as early as next spring to make way for luxury condos and parkland.

According to an article in The Boston Herald, details have now been given on the development of the former Anthony's Pier 4 space in the city's Seaport District, with New York real estate developer Tishman Speyer looking to build a 100-unit residential building with nine floors at the site, while also setting up a waterfront park that is open to the public and includes a part of the Harborwalk. The Boston Globe mentions that the structure that once housed Anthony's Pier 4 will probably be leveled in the spring of 2016, with the condo building possibly being ready by 2018. (An office building will also be built around the middle of the pier, according to the Globe article.)

[February 17, 2016 update: It appears that the demolition of the Anthony's Pier 4 building is getting closer, as a photo posted on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants group page shows a crane set up next to the structure and a note in the post from someone who works nearby saying "Looks like what's left of Anthony's Pier 4 isn't much longer for this world."]

[April 1, 2016 update: The Boston Herald states that the demolition of Anthony's Pier 4 will take place sometime next week.]

[April 12, 2016 update: According to a post from NECN, the Anthony's Pier 4 building is being taken down today.]

Anthony's Pier 4 first opened in 1963 and became one of the most profitable restaurants in the United States at one point, attracting all kinds of famous figures, including U.S. presidents, professional athletes, and religious leaders. Around the time of its closure in 2013, there had been talk that Anthony's might look to reopen in a new space, though it is not known if this will ever happen at this point in time. (The Herald says that the new condo building will have restaurant space.)
