Smoothie King Plans Major Expansion in the Boston Area

A Louisiana-based chain of smoothie bars with one location in the Boston area is planning to expand greatly throughout the region.

The Boston Business Journal is reporting that Smoothie King is looking to open as many as 53 locations in and around the city over the next six years, with Boston, Brighton, Brookline, Cambridge, Medford, Newton, Somerville, and Waltham all being considered by the chain. Currently, the sole location in the Boston area is on Newbury Street in the Back Bay, while only three other outlets can be found in New England (all in Connecticut).

Smoothie King first started out in 1973 and currently has nearly 750 locations in the United States, the Cayman Islands, Singapore, and South Korea. In addition to smoothies, the chain also sells energy bars, sports beverages, vitamin supplements, and more. Its website can be found at http://www.smoothieking.com/
