Fire Hits Il Casale in Belmont

An award-winning Italian restaurant in the western suburbs of Boston is closed for the time being after sustaining minor damage in a fire.

According to a number of sources (as well as an article in the Belmont Citizen-Herald), Il Casale in Belmont Center was the site of a blaze in the ductwork of the dining spot Thursday afternoon, with the one-alarm fire briefly shutting down Leonard Street while firefighters--including crews from Arlington and Cambridge--put it out. No one was injured in the fire, and it looks like the restaurant may be able to reopen in a few days.

The article says that the Belmont Board of Health and Belmont Light will work with the Il Casale team to figure out when it will be able to reopen; at this point in time, it is not known what caused the fire.

[March 4 update: According to a press release, Il Casale in Belmont plans to reopen on Monday (March 7).]

Il Casale has received several "best ofs" since opening in 2009, including from The Boston Globe and Boston Magazine.

The address for Il Casale in Belmont is 50 Leonard Street, Belmont, MA 02478. Its website can be found at http://www.ilcasalebelmont.com/ (A second location of Il Casale is in Lexington Center.)
