Krispy Kreme to Expand into New England Once Again

A national chain of donut shops is going to give it another try at New England, nearly a decade after closing nearly all of its stores in the region.

According to an article from boston.com, Krispy Kreme is planning to open four shops in New Hampshire and three in Maine over the next several years, joining its sole New England location at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. The chain of donut shops, which first started out in North Carolina in the 1930s, began a rapid expansion back in the late 1990s and entered the local market in the early to mid 2000s with locations in such places as Boston's Prudential Center, Dedham, Medford, Saugus, and Cranston, RI, but by 2007, all of the shops in New England had closed except for the Mohegan Sun store.

It is not yet known if Krispy Kreme will try to open shops once again in the Boston area or elsewhere in New England.
