Eater Boston is reporting that Steve "Nookie" Postal of Commonwealth in Cambridge's Kendall Square has signed a lease to open a restaurant in the old Subway space in Davis Square, and he tells EB that this will not be the long-awaited Steinbones, but will instead be a different spot. Postal had been the executive chef for the Boston Red Sox and was also on Bravo's Around the World in 80 Plates before opening Commonwealth on Broad Canal Way in the fall of 2013, and there has been talk of his opening the Jewish-influenced BBQ spot Steinbones as well for awhile now, but it is still not known when or where that place might open.
The space that Postal is taking over was also home to the very first Bertucci's, which was known in part for its bocce court.
The address for Postal's planned eatery in Davis Square is 197 Elm Street, Somerville, MA, 02144.
[July 29 update: The Tables section of The Boston Globe states that Steve Postal may be opening a coffee shop within the Elm Street space, though the exact concept has not been finalized as of yet.]
