Les Sablons Is Opening in Cambridge's Harvard Square; Island Creek Oyster Bar/Row 34 Team Behind It

Earlier this year, we mentioned that the people behind a couple of dining spots in Boston were planning to open a new restaurant in Cambridge. Now we have learned a bit more about the place.

According to a hearing agenda page within the city's website, Les Sablons is seeking the license held by Conductors, a restaurant that was supposed to open--but never did--in the historic Conductor's Building by Mt. Auburn Street, Eliot Street, and Bennett Street in Harvard Square. The manager listed for the proposed eatery is "John Phillip Shorey Gregory," which apparently refers to Shore Gregory, who is one of the owners of Island Creek Oyster Bar in Boston's Kenmore Square and Row 34 in Fort Point, along with the recently-opened location of ICOB in Burlington. In March we had reported that Gregory, Skip Bennett, Garrett Harker, and Jeremy Sewall of ICOB and Row 34 were looking to open a restaurant in the space, but at the time, it did not have a name and no other information had been given.

Based on the hearing notice, it looks like Les Sablons will be open for lunch and dinner daily--it is not yet known whether brunch will be held on weekends--and that the 8,030-square-foot space will have seating for 139, with dining areas and bars on both the first and second floors.

The address for this new restaurant in Harvard Square is: Les Sablons, 112 Mount Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138.

[February 14, 2017 update: According to a job post within the Craigslist site, Les Sablons plans to open this spring and Garrett Harker, Jeremy Sewall, and Brian Rae (Rialto, Centre Street Cafe) are behind the place. The post also says that the restaurant will include a "rambunctious, first floor, neighborhood cocktail party" along with a "modern, 17-foot wide upstairs dining room," and it also hints that the menu may have at least some European influences, with the kitchen offering a "culinary worldview both bold and familiar."]

[April 16, 2017 update: An Instagram post from @jacki_mo indicates that Les Sablons has soft-opened and that the official opening could be coming sometime this week (possibly Tuesday, but this has not yet been confirmed).]

[April 18, 2017 update: A Facebook post from the restaurant confirms that Les Sablons opens in Cambridge today.]
