A local chain of ice cream shops has gotten a bit smaller, as one of its longtime locations has shut down.
According to multiple sources (including @melissah528 who posted a tweet yesterday), Emack & Bolio's in Brookline's Washington Square has a "for lease" sign out front, with @BostonTweet subsequently confirming to us that the Beacon Street store has closed its doors; a photo sent by @BostonTweet shows a note out front thanking customers for their patronage over the years and refers them to other locations in the area. It appears that other locations of Emack & Bolio's, including those in Boston's North Station, Fenway, and the Back Bay, along with Charlestown and Cambridge, remain in operation.
The Brookline location of Emack & Bolio's first opened approximately 15 years ago, taking over the space where the Ice Cream Factory had once been.
The address for Emack & Bolio's in Washington Square was 1663 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA, 02445. The website for the chain is at http://www.emackandbolios.com/
[November 2 update: The Boston Business Journal mentions that Emack & Bolio's in Brookline closed because of rising rents, with founder Robert Rook mentioning that the lease ended at the end of October and it wasn't worth renewing because of the rent increase.]
