A cocktail lounge within a hotel in downtown Boston is shutting down, and it will be replaced by a new spot that will have what appears to be an aristocratic theme.
According to an article in Boston Magazine, the Highball Lounge in the Nine Zero Hotel on Tremont Street closes on June 16, with its space becoming home to Better Sorts Social Club. Nine Zero general manager Michal Penek hints in a press release that this will cater at least in part to wealthy travelers, saying that "Now more than ever, our city is in the international spotlight, and our transformation will certainly place us at the forefront of the most sophisticated travelers' wish lists" while the release also mentions that the new place will have "a glamorous cocktail-forward concept." If all goes as planned, Better Sorts Social Club will open sometime this fall.
The Highball Lounge, which first opened in the latter part of 2013, is a retro cocktail bar with modern takes on old-school cocktails along with games, music from DJs, and bar bites.
The address for the Highball Lounge (and the new Better Sorts Social Club) is 90 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, 02108.
[August 24 update: A post within the jobs section of bostonchefs.com indicates that Better Sorts plans to open in October and that the beverage program will be run by Naomi Levy (formerly of Eastern Standard).]
[October 4 update: Eater Boston states that Better Sorts opens today.]
