Italo Bakery in South Medford Has Closed; Exact Future Uncertain

by Marc Hurwitz

An Italian bakery that has been a longtime favorite for pizza and more has shut down at least for now, and it is not known what the future holds for the place.

According to several sources, Italo in South Medford closed this weekend, with a poster on the Medford Square Facebook group saying that this could be a temporary closure that is due to a sick family member overseas, though other posters believe that it may be a permanent closure. Calls placed to the Main Street shop went unanswered yesterday, so as of now, there is no confirmation on the exact status of the place; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

Italo has been featured on our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) as a place to go for bakery pizza, scali bread, Italian cookies, and more, with the review being found here:

The address for Italo Bakery is 509 Main Street, Medford, MA, 02155.
