It looks like a dining and drinking spot just north of Boston that resides in an historic structure is shutting down.

According to a source within the restaurant industry, Chelsea Station Restaurant Bar & Lounge in Chelsea is going to be closing its doors, confirming an X post from @ChelseaScanner that says "Business Closing" and indicating that the Everett Avenue spot could be shuttering sometime this week (though a specific closing date has not been given as of yet). Chelsea Station first opened in 2016 in a converted horse and carriage firehouse that was one of the only structures in that part of Chelsea to survive the devastating fire of 1973; it is known in part for its classic American and New American fare along with its cocktail options.

What was once a pair of comfort food spots will soon no longer exist, as its sole remaining location is shutting down.

According to an article from What Now Boston, Saus at Bow Market in Somerville is going to be closing, with an Instagram post from the business saying the following:

It's with both lots of excitement and a little bit of tears that we let you all know that Saus at Bow Market will be closing this December. (Exact date TBD.) Between our Boston location and this one, Chin and I (Tanya) have been doing this for 15 years. It's been a privilege, a wonderful dream, an emotional rollercoaster....We made real friendships, learned a lot from the other businesses, and made some core memories. And as sad as we are to close this chapter of our lives, it's time to move on....When we have a final day, we'll let ya’ll know. And as we do, we’ll throw a giant last-day-of-service party. Clementine to Replace The Garrison House in Brookline Village

A new restaurant is on its way to Brookline, and it will be replacing a dining spot that has been around for about five years.

According to an article from The Brookline News, Clementine is planning to open in the space in Brookline Village where The Garrison House currently resides, with Mathew Freid (who was behind the now-closed Idle Hour in Quincy) being the owner. Very little is known about the upcoming place other than the fact that it plans to have seating for 128 inside and 32 outside and that it hopes to be open until 1:00 AM on weekends; more should be known soon (a hearing on the plans is slated for today), so stay tuned for updates.

The Garrison House debuted in late 2021, replacing Magnolia Smokehouse; Hawkeye Hospitality (Elm Street Taproom, Five Horses Tavern, The Chester Tavern) is behind the spot, which is known in part for its classic American fare and pub food.

 A decades-old suburban Chinese restaurant is getting ready to shut its doors.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Mandarin Cuisine is going to be closing, with a Facebook post from the Highland Avenue spot saying the following:

To our wonderful patrons, neighbors, and friends, We are announcing the upcoming closure of Mandarin Cuisine. We will remain open until October 31, 2026. We have loved every single moment of serving you over the past 37 years. Thank you for your unwavering support, your smiles, and for making our restaurant a true community staple. As we prepare to hand over the keys to new ownership, we want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has supported our small business. We hope you will stop by before the end of October to say goodbye. We will miss you!

No information has been given on the restaurant that will be replacing Mandarin Cuisine, so stay tuned for any details as they come in.

A South Shore dining and drinking spot known in part for its dishes using locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients is shutting down.

According to its social media, The Salt Marsh Bistro and Bar in Scituate is closing at the end of business hours on October 31, with a Facebook post from the place saying the following:

With heavy hearts, we're sharing that we have made the difficult decision to close our doors. We gave this concept our hearts, our energy, and everything we had, and while this chapter didn't unfold quite the way we had hoped, we're incredibly grateful for the experience, our customers who supported us, and our dedicated staff. To our family and friends - thank you for standing beside us through every step. Your love, encouragement, and support have meant more than we can put into words. As we close this chapter, we're looking ahead with gratitude and excitement for what's to come.

The note does mention that its other restaurant--Osteria Vivo in Pembroke will remain in operation, saying that "We're thankful to continue our journey at Vivo, and we're excited to see where the future takes us and what new endeavors may be on the horizon."

The Salt Marsh Bistro and Bar first opened las summer, taking over the space where Rivershed had been.

According to a source from earlier this week, Lulu Green on W Broadway is getting ready to close, with an Instagram post from the business saying the following:

After 7 incredible years, the time has come for us to move on to our next chapter. Saturday, 10/17/26 will be our final day of service at the South Boston location. As a small, family run business, we want to focus our full attention on growing our newly opened Kendall Square location in Cambridge. This will allow us to bring our focus under one roof and continue bringing you remarkable plant-based food and drink with lots of fun happenings to come. This was a very tough decision - one that we did not take lightly because this neighborhood means so much to us. An Asian soup spot in Cambridge has closed its doors, though another Asian restaurant appears to be coming to the space.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, What A Soup near Central Square is no longer in business, with an Instagram post from the River Street restaurant from last week saying "What A Soup will officially close on 10/10/26. That means you only have until 10/9 to come enjoy your favorite bowl with us one last time!" (The post--and the page--have since been deleted.) Another poster within the group mentions that EN'YA Robatayaki & Sake Bar is planning to open there, with the Instagram page for the place saying "something's heating up in Cambridge, MA EN'YA Robatayaki & Sake Bar Japanese Izakaya style dining, sake & good vibes. STAY TUNED!!"

What A Soup, which first opened in early 2024, was known for its Thai boat noodles; the dining spot resided in the space where Nu Dò Society had previously been, and before that, River Gods.

Kitchen Table in Beverly Has Closed

A restaurant on the North Shore that was known for its locally-sourced fare has shut down.

According to multiple sources, Kitchen Table in Beverly is no longer in business, with an Instagram post from the Cabot Street spot saying the following:

With heavy hearts, we have closed the doors of Kitchen Table. To everyone who joined us for dinner, pulled up a seat at the bar, celebrated with us, ordered takeout, or told a friend about us - thank you. Every visit mattered. We built this place around cooking from scratch, sourcing thoughtfully, and taking care of people. Those commitments weren't always the easiest path, but we're proud of the food we served and the hospitality we shared. To our local farmers, fishermen, growers, and producers: thank you for the ingredients, care, and craft you brought through our kitchen doors.

Kitchen Table first opened in the summer of 2023, with chef Bill Fogarty (who had previously been the chef/owner of Scratch Kitchen in Salem) being behind it. The restaurant offered such items as clam chowder, wings, roasted chicken, lemon pepper pollock, roasted pork shoulder, fingerlings, and more.

It looks like another location of a local group of Mexican restaurants has closed.

According to Kiat Cormier, who posted in the ChewOnThis Facebook group page, Temazcal Tequila Cantina in Framingham is no longer in operation, with a check on the website for the business confirming this, as the Route 9 dining spot is no longer shown in its locations section. This is the second location of the restaurant to close of late, as the Seaport District location in Boston shuttered earlier this year; locations in Burlington, Lynnfield, and Dedham remain open for business.

The Framingham outlet of Temazcal Tequila Cantina first opened in 2018 in the space where a location of Papa Razzi had been.

According to its website, Crisp in Canton is no longer in business, with the note saying "Crisp Canton location has closed as of 10/3/2026. Walpole open as usual." The Canton location of Crisp first opened in the fall of 2021, moving into a space on Route 138 a short distance north of the Stoughton line; its menu included bar pizza along with soups, salads, wings, tenders, sandwiches, calzones, steak tips, pasta dishes, and more.

The Newtonville location of Mochiko Hawaiian first opened in 2022, while the Brighton location only lasted a few months at Boston Landing, having debuted this summer; both locations were known for such options as chicken sandwiches, pork sandwiches, fried chicken plates, burgers, spam handrolls, smoothies, iced tea, milk tea, and more.

The Half Shell in Cambridge's Porter Square Has Closed; The Sub Shop to Open in Its Space

A longtime pizzeria in Cambridge has shut down, though a familiar name known for its artisan sandwiches will be moving into the space.

According to multiple sources, The Half Shell in Porter Square is no longer in business, with an article from the Cambridge Somerville Independent stating that The Sub Shop will be opening in the Massachusetts Avenue space. The article mentions that the Lagoudakis family, which has been running the pizza shop for nearly 30 years, has decided to retire, while also saying that Josh Winer will be bringing The Sub Shop--which started out as a popup within the now-closed Pastoral in Boston's Fort Point--into the space, offering freshly-made sandwiches using bread baked daily--and its popular spicy Calabrian chicken will be among the offerings along with the rest of the menu as well as a couple of new additions.

If all goes as planned, The Sub Shop could be opening around the middle of October.

Another location of a chain of burger spots with local roots is closing, and this one is its very first restaurant.

According to a Facebook post from the business, Wahlburgers in Hingham is getting ready to shut down, with the note saying the following:

After nearly 15 years, our lease at the Hingham Shipyard is coming to an end and will close on Sept. 30. As the original Wahlburgers location, Hingham will always hold a special place in our story. While this location is closing, we’re actively looking for a new home in the Boston area and hope to have more to share soon. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who walked through our doors, shared a meal with us and made this restaurant part of their lives. Two other locations of the Wahlburgers chain (which was founded by Mark, Donnie, and Paul Wahlberg) have shut down in the local area over the past couple of years--at South Bay in Dorchester and MarketStreet Lynnfield; other outlets remain in operation in Boston's Fenway and Logan Airport (2) along with Plainville and Springfield.

Sonic Drive-In in Stoughton Has Closed

A chain of drive-ins has closed another one of its locations in Eastern Massachusetts, and there is now only one remaining locally.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Sonic Drive-In in Stoughton is no longer in business, with a check on the website for the chain confirming this, showing that the Washington Street outlet has been removed from the site. With the closing of the Stoughton location, this means that the sole remaining Sonic in the local area is in Peabody, as others in Lawrence and Wilmington are no longer in business as well.

Sonic first opened in the Stoughton Town Center plaza in 2016, offering such items as burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, fries, onion rings, shakes, and more.

Olivadi Restaurant in Norwood Is Closing Permanently

A casual upscale suburban restaurant in the southwest suburbs of Boston that appeared to have shut down early in the pandemic only to open back up a couple of years later is now going to be closing permanently.

According to a Facebook post from the business, Olivadi Restaurant in Norwood is getting ready to say farewell, with the post from the Guild Street dining spot saying the following:

To our wonderful friends, family, and community, after many amazing years, we have made the difficult decision to close Olivadi Restaurant & Bar. Olivadi opened in 2008 when our father, Anthony Delapa, set out to create something truly special right here in downtown Norwood. Ever since, our family has been proud to be part of this community and welcome so many of you through our doors....From our family to yours, thank you for 18 years of memories, friendship, and support. The note mentions that its last night of service will be Saturday, October 10.

Back in the middle part of 2020, Olivadi appeared to have closed for good because of the impact of Covid-19, along with the passing of Anthony Delapa; the restaurant did end up reopening in the spring of 2022.

According to a couple of sources, Cunard Tavern in East Boston is getting ready to close, with a Facebook post from the Orleans Street spot saying the following:

After nearly a decade in East Boston, it's time to say goodbye....Cunard was never just a restaurant to us. It was a neighborhood bar, a gathering place, a place for first dates and birthday celebrations, Sunday brunches and late nights, beer dinners and trivia nights. Most importantly, it was a place where we got to know our neighbors and where so many of you became friends. One of a pair of longtime Asian fusion restaurants known in part for their hot pot could be replaced by a new hot pot place.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Shabu-Zen in Allston is petitioning to transfer its license to Zhu Seafood & Beef Hot Pot, which would open within its space on Brighton Avenue. Very little information has been given about the proposed eatery, but more should be known by later next week after the hearing, so stay tuned for updates.

The Allston location of Shabu-Zen opened approximately 20 years ago, joining the Chinatown location which had debuted a few years earlier and which remains in operation on Tyler Street.
