Lucy's Is Opening in West Medford

It looks like a new food shop is on its way to West Medford, moving into the space where a deli and nanobrewery had been until leaving the space as part of a move.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, a sign is now up for Lucy's in the old Deep Cuts Deli space on High Street, with a QR code on the sign taking people to an Instagram page which has no posts as of yet. The space that Lucy's is moving into had been home to Deep Cuts Deli, which is moving into the former Carroll's space on Main Street in Medford Square.

The address for Lucy's in West Medford is 472 High Street, Medford, MA, 02155. Its Instagram page will be at https://www.instagram.com/lucyscraftdeli/

[October 30 update: A poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page says that Lucy's is now open, and it offers salads, Sicilian pizza, and sandwiches.]

Deep Cuts Deli Is Moving from West Medford to the Former Carroll's Space in Medford Square

Several months ago, it was reported that a deli and nanobrewery in West Medford was looking into moving to a larger space in Arlington. Those plans have fallen through, however, as a move within Medford is now in the works instead.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Deep Cuts Deli is going to be moving from its current home on High Street to a new space in Medford Square, taking over the space on Main Street where Carroll's had been until closing down in August. A message sent to us by the business mentions that renovations are slated to begin in the next couple of weeks and that the new space will include a full dining/taproom area, a kitchen, bar, and 5 bbl brewery while also having a stage for shows and events. More details are expected on the new home for Deep Cuts sometime this week, so stay tuned for additional updates.

Deep Cuts, which opened in West Medford in March of 2021 and had once been briefly located within BearMoose Brewing Company in Everett, had originally been looking to move to the former Tango space on Mass. Ave. in Arlington Center.

The current address for Deep Cuts Deli is 472 High Street while its new location will be at 21 Main Street. Its website can be found at https://www.deepcuts.rocks/

[May 24, 2023 update: A poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page says (via an event page) that Deep Cuts is now open in its new home.]

Deep Cuts Deli & Brewery Plans to Move from West Medford to Arlington Center

A deli and nanobrewery in West Medford may be moving to a larger space nearby.

According to a poster within The Arlington List Facebook group page and an article from Your Arlington, Deep Cuts Deli on High Street is looking to move to Arlington, taking over the former Tango space on Mass. Ave. in the center of town. The Facebook post gives the following information from the business via the application:

...we are applying to relocate to 464 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA to open a larger dine-in location with a larger on-site brewery....Our proposal is to lease the former Restaurant Space, Tango, and convert it into a new Restaurant and Brewery....We will only be making minor interior renovations and repairs, and installing a 5bl brewing system in the basement.

Tango closed down in June of 2020 while Deep Cuts (which had once been set up briefly within BearMoose Brewing Company in Everett) opened their West Medford shop in March of 2021.

Deep Cuts Deli and Brewery Is Opening in West Medford

Last year, it was reported that a deli that parted ways with a brewery would be opening its own brewery and deli, with the plan being to possibly find a space in Somerville. Now we have learned that the business has found a space in a neighboring community.

According to a source, Deep Cuts Deli and Brewery is opening in West Medford, taking over the space on High Street that had been home to Fruition Vegan Kitchen. (Fruition has since moved its business to what appears to be a commercial kitchen space on Pearl Street.) A message sent from the place indicates that Deep Cuts will initially just focus on food for takeout/delivery including sandwiches and grab-and-go items, with an outdoor patio being set up for customers (they also plan to sell local goods including candles, records, tapes, and art prints). We have been told that the on-site brewing of beer and hard seltzer will be put on hold as the pandemic continues, as will the hosting of small live performances, craft markets, and art shows, and more, all of which are being planned at some point.

Deep Cuts Deli had been briefly set up within BearMoose Brewing Company in Everett, with their initial plans after parting ways with BearMoose being to open a combination deli/brewery possibly in the Winter Hill section of Somerville.

If all goes well, Deep Cuts could be opening around the middle of October.

The address for Deep Cuts Deli is 472 High Street, Medford, MA, 02155. Its website is at http://www.deepcuts.rocks/

[March 1 update: According to its social media, Deep Cuts Deli is now open for takeout and delivery.]

Nourish Your Soul in West Medford Has Closed

by Marc Hurwitz

A trio of shops featuring fresh-pressed juices and more has dropped back down to two, as its original location has shut down.

A message sent from the business confirms what a source had said earlier, that Nourish Your Soul in West Medford has closed, though locations in Winchester and Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood remain in operation. The Playstead Road location first opened in June of 2012, offering cold-pressed juices, smoothies, milks, superfood shots, and coffee along with soups, salads, baked goods, bowls, and more.

A couple of other outlets of Nourish Your Soul had been inside Healthworks gym in the Back Bay and The Club by George Foreman III at the Channel Center in South Boston but those have since closed.

The address for this now-closed juice shop in West Medford was: Nourish Your Soul, 17 Playstead Road, West Medford, MA, 02155. The website for the other locations can be found at https://nourishyoursoul.com/

[May 9 update: A message sent from the business indicates that a new location of Nourish Your Soul will be on its way to the Boston area, though no specifics have been given as of yet.]

Depot Square Grille in West Medford to Be Replaced by Chimichurri's

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a seafood spot in West Medford is making way for a Mexican restaurant.

According to a source, Depot Square Grille on High Street is being replaced by a new spot called Chimichurri's, with a Google search seeming to confirm this, showing that "Chimichurri's Mexican" is taking over the space. Very little is known about Chimichurri's at this point in time, so keep checking back for updates.

Depot Square Grille was known in part for its fried and baked seafood along with its lobster rolls and a variety of non-seafood options such as burgers, pork chops, steak tips, and more.

The address for Depot Square Grille (and the upcoming Chimichurri's) is 478 High Street, Medford, MA, 02155.

[April 19 update: According to a Facebook post, Chimichurri's plans to open in West Medford on May 1 and it will feature tacos, tortas, quesadillas, enchiladas, and burritos.]

[May 16 update: Chimichurri's did not open on May 1 after all, but a new Facebook post from the place indicates that it hopes to open in late May, citing "some contractor delays in bringing place up to code" in the note.]

[May 30 update: A new Facebook post indicates that Chimichurri's is now looking to open in June.]

[June 24 update: A tweet from @HankMorse mentions that Chimichurri's is now open, with the restaurant's Facebook page confirming this.]

Pikaichi Is Moving into the Former Emiliano'z Space in Medford

by Marc Hurwitz

A Japanese restaurant that left its space in Allston because of increasing rent has found a new home in Medford, taking over the space where a Mexican spot had been.

Eater Boston is reporting (via a Facebook post) that Pikaichi is going to be reborn in the former Emiliano'z Mexican Grill space on Boston Avenue, with the post saying that it could be reopening as soon as March. The Japanese eatery had shut down last month, saying that they would not be able to sustain their business due to a major rent increase, but at the time they mentioned that they would be looking for a new home somewhere in the area. Pikaichi, which is known for such items as ramen, rice bowls, fried octopus balls, boneless fried chicken, and more, had been squeezed into a space between the Hong Kong Supermarket/Super 88 market and its adjacent food court where Brighton Avenue meets Commonwealth Avenue. Our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) has featured it as an under-the-radar spot to go to, with the review being found at this link:

http://www.hiddenboston.com/Pikaichi.html

Emiliano'z, a restaurant known in part for its burritos and tacos, shut down late last month after approximately 10 years in business.

The address for the new location of Pikaichi is 123 Boston Avenue, Medford, MA, 02155. Its website can be found at https://www.pikaichiramen.com/

[April 17 update: Eater Boston states that Pikaichi opens in its new home in Medford tomorrow (Wednesday, April 18).]

Snappy Patty's Is Opening in West Medford

A new restaurant is coming to West Medford, and it will apparently be focusing on patty melts.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Snappy Patty's is going to be opening on High Street, with Nicholas Dowling--who used to work at Citizen Public House in Boston's Fenway neighborhood, Franklin Cafe in the South End, and Franklin Southie--being behind the spot. Dowling says in the article that the restaurant's concept will be "upscale, contemporary American food done correctly" with the signature dish being mini patty melt sliders. Snappy Patty's will have seating for 36 and it will be open for lunch and dinner as well as brunch on weekends, according to the Globe.

[July 11 update: The Medford Transcript mentions that Snappy Patty's expects to open "within a few weeks."]

[August 7 update: UrbanDaddy states that Snappy Patty's opens tonight for dinner, with lunch service beginning next Tuesday. The post also mentions that the eatery will have a number of beers available.]

The address for this new restaurant in West Medford is: Snappy Patty's, 454 High Street, Medford, MA, 02155.
