Lucy's Is Opening in West Medford

It looks like a new food shop is on its way to West Medford, moving into the space where a deli and nanobrewery had been until leaving the space as part of a move.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, a sign is now up for Lucy's in the old Deep Cuts Deli space on High Street, with a QR code on the sign taking people to an Instagram page which has no posts as of yet. The space that Lucy's is moving into had been home to Deep Cuts Deli, which is moving into the former Carroll's space on Main Street in Medford Square.

The address for Lucy's in West Medford is 472 High Street, Medford, MA, 02155. Its Instagram page will be at https://www.instagram.com/lucyscraftdeli/

[October 30 update: A poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page says that Lucy's is now open, and it offers salads, Sicilian pizza, and sandwiches.]

Boston Market in the Back Bay/Fenway Area Has Closed

A struggling restaurant chain that got its start in the Boston area has closed its only remaining location within the city itself.

According to a Twitter post from @TheDrewStarr, Boston Market in the city's Back Bay/Fenway area is no longer in business, with a sign out front at the Mass. Ave. space referring customers to its Medford and Saugus locations. This appears to be one of the 45 locations of the chain (approximately 10% of all its shops) that have shut down over the past couple of weeks, as a Nation's Restaurant News article mentions the outlets were underperforming, while CEO Frances Allen says that "We must take steps to ensure our operational structure will support long-term sustainability." While this is the last location of Boston Market within the city limits (it appears that the Dorchester location of Boston Market recently closed as well), four locations remain in operation inside Route 128 according to its website, including the aforementioned shops in Medford and Saugus along with two others in Waltham and Quincy.

Boston Market started out in Newton as Boston Chicken in the mid-1980s, moving its headquarters to Colorado in the 1990s and eventually changing over to its current Boston Market name. The chain is known in part for its rotisserie chicken options.

The address for this now-closed location of Boston Market was 245 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA, 02115. The website for the chain can be found at https://www.bostonmarket.com/

[July 11 update: Mass Live confirms that the Dorchester location of Boston Market is no longer in business, as that location along with a Swampscott outlet were indeed part of the recent closures.]

La Rotisserie in Chestnut Hill Has Apparently Closed

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a suburban rotisserie eatery that had been in business for a long time has shut down.

According to a source within the restaurant industry, La Rotisserie at The Street Chestnut Hill is no longer in business, with a call placed to the spot indicating that its phone is no longer in service. It is not known why the dining spot closed or when its last day might have been; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

La Rotisserie, which first opened approximately 30 years ago, was known in part for its rotisserie chicken along with its ribs, roasted turkey breast, chicken pot pie, and pulled pork.

The address for this now-closed dining spot at The Street Chestnut Hill was: La Rotisserie, 17 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill, MA, 02467.

Update: Boston Market in Saugus Closes, Then Reopens

[Ed note: This article was updated on June 18, 2018 to reflect the fact that the place has reopened.]

One of the oldest locations of a chain of restaurants that got its start in the Boston area has shut down.

According to a source, Boston Market in Saugus appears to be closed for good, with a check on the chain's website seeming to confirm this (the location is no longer on the site) along with the Yelp page for the Route 1 eatery stating that it is indeed permanently closed. The closest existing locations to the now-shuttered Saugus shop are in Swampscott and Medford, with other local stores being in Boston's Back Bay/Fenway area, Dorchester, Waltham, Quincy, Norwood, Brockton, and Framingham. It appears that the Saugus location of Boston Market had been in business since at least the early to mid-1990s.

Boston Market first started out in Newtonville as Boston Chicken in 1985, moving its headquarters to Colorado in the 1990s and eventually changing over to its current name. The chain is known in part for its rotisserie chicken options.

The address for this now-closed location of Boston Market was 168 Broadway, Saugus, MA, 01906. The website for the chain can be found at https://www.bostonmarket.com/

[June 18, 2018 update: According to a poster here, Boston Market in Saugus is open once again, with a check on the website and social media pages for the business confirming this.]

Firebrand Saints Is Opening in Cambridge's Kendall Square

A new restaurant featuring rotisserie options and sandwiches is looking to open in the Kendall Square section of Cambridge.

Based on meeting minutes that have been posted on the City of Cambridge website, Firebrand Saints is going to be opening at the corner of Broadway and Third Street in the heart of the square. The notes indicate that the person behind the upcoming restaurant (who also happens to run Central Kitchen in Cambridge's Central Square) plans to have a menu that features classic rotisserie items, as well as hand-sliced sandwiches and burgers. Much like Central Kitchen, the ingredients used will tend to be organic and natural, according to the notes. It appears that Firebrand Saints will be open for both lunch and dinner, and the owner plans to have both indoor and outdoor dining, as well as a small bar area.

[September 20 update: According to UrbanDaddy, Firebrand Saints has soft-opened.]

The address for this upcoming restaurant in Kendall Square will be: Firebrand Saints, 1 Broadway, Cambridge, MA, 02142. Their website can be found at: http://firebrandsaints.com/
