An award-winning restaurant in the heart of Boston is shutting down.
According to an Instagram post from the place, Townsman on Kingston Street is closing after business hours on Tuesday, July 3, with the note saying "As [owner] @matthewjennings explores new prospects and opportunities, he's excited to craft a life that is more thoughtful, healthy and sustainable for himself and his family. You never know what he'll be cooking up next. Thank you Boston and New England for the delicious memories!" The dining spot, which is known for its regional fare with global influences, first opened in the winter of 2015, with Matt and Kate Jennings coming from the now-closed Farmstead, Inc. in Providence's Wayland Square. Townsman received high praise over the past 3 1/2 years, including getting a "best of" from Boston Magazine in 2015 and being included in Food & Wine's restaurants of the year list for 2016.
The address for Townsman is 120 Kingston Street, Boston, MA, 02111.
