Milk Bar and &pizza Opening in Cambridge's Harvard Square

by Marc Hurwitz

A couple of highly-anticipated spots are in the process of opening in one of the busiest parts of Cambridge, and both are located within the same space.

The Tables section of The Boston Globe reports that Milk Bar and &pizza are now open in Harvard Square, taking over the old Tory Row/Crimson Corner space by the corner of Mass. Ave. and Brattle Street (Crimson Corner has moved to a storefront nearby). As mentioned earlier, the New York-based Milk Bar has a two-time James Beard Award winner behind it in Christina Tosi, with the website for the place saying that Bon Appetit Magazine once called it "one of the most exciting bakeries in the country." Michael Lastoria is behind the Washington, D.C.-based &pizza, and as the Globe says, he is also a longtime friend of Tosi--and the pizzeria has a variety of options available, including gluten-free and vegan choices.

Plans for Milk Bar and &pizza to come to Harvard Square have been in the works since at least 2017, though the entire deal almost fell through in part because of issues with the Cambridge Historical Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeal.

The address for Milk Bar and &pizza is 1-3 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138. The website for Milk Bar is at https://milkbarstore.com/ while the website for &pizza can be found at https://andpizza.com/

[January 31 update: According to a couple of sources, Milk Bar is actually not open yet, though &pizza is indeed open; it looks like Milk Bar will be opening on Saturday, February 2 instead.]
