A British developer has acquired a section of Somerville's Davis Square, and the properties include some well-known places for food and drink.
Banker & Tradesman is reporting that London-based Scape has signed long-term ground leases for three properties on Elm Street that are home to the Burren Pub, McKinnon's Meat Market, the Sligo Pub, and When Pigs Fly, along with a parking lot in the back. The developer is focusing on dorm-style/co-living projects in the local region, and at this point in time, it is not known what might happen to the storefronts that are part of the purchase. (Stay tuned for updates.)
The purchase price for the three properties and parking lot was just under 10 million.
Thanks to Geoff Wong for initially bringing this to our attention.
[July 31 update: Boston Magazine mentions (via the Boston Business Journal) that Scape apparently has an agreement that would keep the Burren open; the status of McKinnon's Meat Market, the Sligo Pub, and When Pigs Fly (and Jae's Cafe as well) remain unknown, however.]
[August 1 update: Eater Boston states that the future of the Sligo Pub is definitely in question, with a Facebook post from the bar saying that "Though the future of the family business is indeed uncertain, we hope to make the best of time that we do have with all of you now." In addition, it is also not known what might become of Caramel French Patisserie, Kung Fu Tea, and Martsa on Elm.]
[October 29 update: A new article from Eater Boston says that the Burren will apparently remain in operation "during and after construction," and that the Sligo Pub may be given the option to return to the space once construction is done.]
