Several years ago, it was learned that a small group of steakhouses based in Indiana might be coming to the Boston waterfront. Those plans seemed to subsequently fall by the wayside, but now they appear to be back on in a nearby location, possibly taking over a massive space that had been home to another restaurant.
According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Eddie Merlot's Prime Aged Beef and Seafood is looking to open in the Seaport District and it is seeking to acquire the license of La Casa de Pedro, with the plan being to take over its space on Congress Street. Originally, Eddie Merlot's had been hoping to open a 300- to 400-seat restaurant at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel on Summer Street, with the plans being announced in 2013 and the restaurant possibly opening the following year. The Fort Wayne-based group of steakhouses first started out in 2001 and now has 13 locations, though none in the Northeast.
The Seaport District location of La Casa de Pedro closed last summer, saying that it was hoping to reopen at some point but it never did; its Watertown location shut down earlier this year.
The address for the proposed location of Eddie Merlot's is 505 Congress Street, Boston, MA, 02210. The website for all locations of the steakhouse can be found at https://www.eddiemerlots.com/
