One of Boston's oldest Vietnamese restaurants is shutting its doors.
According to several sources, including a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, New Dong Khanh in Chinatown is closing, with a Facebook post from the Harrison Avenue eatery saying that "The rumors you have been hearing are true. It is bittersweet but we are very thankful knowing we have served generations after generations the wonderful food our parents started 32 years ago in a small tight [cramped] space and a kitchen that barely fit 3 people inside." It appears that the people behind the restaurant may have plans to return, saying in the note that "this is not the end, but just the beginning. We will be back soon." The last day in service for the restaurant will be August 4.
New Dong Khanh has been known for such options as pho, vermicelli, rice plates, a variety of traditional Vietnamese entrees, and more, including some Chinese dishes such as lo mein and chow foon.
