Comfort Kitchen May Open in Uphams Corner, As Plans for Sip & Spoke Fall Through

A new restaurant may be on its way to a section of Boston that has few dining options, and it would be taking over an historic space that a proposed bike cafe had been interested in awhile back.

According to an article in the Dorchester Reporter, a dining spot called Comfort Kitchen is looking to open in the Uphams Corner section of Dorchester, moving into a former comfort station that had been around since the early 1900s. Over the past couple of years, it appeared that a combination bike shop/coffee shop called Sip & Spoke was coming to the Columbia Road site, but those plans have been scrapped, paving the way for what is being described as a "daytime cafe and pop-up dinner experience featuring local food entrepreneurs." The post mentions that the people behind the proposed eatery are Nyacko Perry and Biplaw Rai, with the latter being behind Shanti in Dorchester, Roslindale, and Cambridge along with Dudley Cafe in Roxbury.

If all goes as planned, Comfort Kitchen could be opening in May of 2020.

The address for the proposed Comfort Kitchen is 611 Columbia Road, Dorchester, MA, 02125.

[December 23 update: Eater Boston reports that Comfort Kitchen is hoping to open in July or August of 2020, and that it plans to be a cafe by day and a restaurant by night that offers global comfort food; in addition, it will also be a community meeting space and a food incubator partnering with the Dorchester-based Commonwealth Kitchen.]
