An award-winning pastry shop in the North End of Boston is shutting down.
According to an article from Eater Boston, Maria's Pastry Shop on Cross Street is planning to close on September 15, as owner Maria Merola says "I've been working for 50 years....I'm done....I love it, and I'm going to miss it, no question." The store, which Merola has owned since 1982 when she purchased the space from Modern Pastry, is known for its variety of Italian treats including its cannoli, which was once given a "best of" by Boston Magazine.
The address for Maria's Pastry Shop is 46 Cross Street, Boston, MA, 02113.
[August 26 update: According to a source, Maria's Pastry Shop plans to stay open beyond September 15, though they will not be restocking the place after that date, so it could close soon afterwards.]
[September 15 update: A tweet from @NorthEndBoston confirms that Maria's Pastry Shop closed today, though another post mentions that they will indeed be wrapping up orders over the next few days and using the last of their remaining stock.]
[September 23 update: A Twitter post from @stevebikes indicates that Maria's is actually still open, and plans to be so possibly until next Monday.]
[September 25 update: A message from Patrick Maguire of Maguire Promotions & Hospitality Consulting indicates that Maria's will remain open through this Saturday, and if there is any product left, it will open back up again on Sunday. (It now appears that Monday will be spent cleaning out the shop.)]
