Last week it was reported that an Asian sandwich bar in downtown Boston was planning to expand to one of the busiest parts of Cambridge. Now we have learned that it could be replacing a beloved burger spot whose future is now in question.
According to an article from Eater Boston, Foumami is looking to move into Harvard Square, possibly taking over the Harvard Square space where Flat Patties currently resides, and based on an earlier post from Cambridge Scout, this could mark the end of the line for the burger spot. Co-owner Tom Brush said in the post that the lease was up at the end of the year and sales haven't been strong enough to sustain a potentially big rent increase, so while Flat Patties could possibly move to a new space, it seemed more likely that the restaurant would simply close instead, with Brush saying that "Sometime in 2019, Flat Patties will be departing Harvard Square."
Flat Patties, which used to be located in the nearby Garage until moving to Brattle Street in 2010, has been featured on our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) as a top place to go for burgers. The review can be found at this link:

The address for Flat Patties is 33 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138.
[September 20 update: The Harvard Crimson says that the closing of Flat Patties is due to rising rents rather than poor sales, and while the restaurant's lease expires on November 1, it will apparently remain open until a new tenant is found for the space. (The article does not mention Foumami at all.)]
