An historic Boston hotel has shut down permanently, with its restaurant apparently closing as well.
Universal Hub is reporting that the Hotel Buckminster in Kenmore Square has closed permanently, with a Facebook post from the place saying that "In response to the most recent guidelines from the CDC, State and government officials, Boston Hotel Buckminster has suspended all operations...in an effort to protect the well being of our guests and colleagues against COVID-19....We do not have plans of reopening in the future at this point in time." It is presumed that the Fenmore Grill, which is located within the hotel, is also shuttered for good as well; no updates have been made to its Facebook page, while phone calls to the restaurant did not go through this morning.
According to UH, the Hotel Buckminster first started out in 1897 and was known in part as the place where the idea behind the Black Sox scandal of 1919 first came to be. (Universal Hub also says that WHDH had its roots there, as its predecessor--WNAC--started broadcasting out of the basement in 1948.)
The address for the Hotel Buckminster (and the Fenmore Grill) is 645 Beacon Street, Boston, MA, 02215. The website for the hotel can be found at http://www.bostonhotelbuckminster.com/
