News Elsewhere: Wexford House in Worcester Has Closed for Good

A Worcester mainstay that closed last month but was eventually planning to reopen will not be doing so after all.

According to an article from the Worcester Telegram, the Wexford House on Shrewsbury Street has shut down for good, with co-owner Ann Marie Cravedi saying that "The virus was really the breaking point....I think it's time." Cravedi and her husband Richard had closed the dining spot on March 16 due to the state restaurant shutdown that only allows places to offer takeout/delivery, but the combination of their looking at retiring at some point and the continuing restaurant restrictions helped them come to their decision to shutter permanently.

The menu at the Wexford House, which first opened nearly 40 years ago, got some of its inspiration from the landmark restaurant El Morocco where chef Allen Erickson and his wife (and waitress at the Wexford) Debbie had once worked; El Morocco had seen the likes of such celebrities as Al Pacino, Bette Midler, and Bobby Orr over the years until closing down in 1994.

The address for the Wexford House was 503 Shrewsbury Street, Worcester, MA, 01604.
