Workers, Customers Required to Wear Protective Face Covering Inside Restaurants in Brookline, Salem

Restaurant restrictions have now been in place in Massachusetts for nearly a month, and at least two communities in the Greater Boston area have issued further restrictions that affect both restaurant employees and patrons.

According to an article from NBC Boston along with a second post from them, both Brookline and Salem are requiring that restaurant workers and customers wear a mask or some other kind of protective face covering while inside the establishments, with Brookline's rules having gone into effect on Tuesday, April 7 while Salem's rules will commence on Sunday, April 12. It is not known whether people in Brookline could be fined for not wearing protective covering, but in Salem, fines can indeed be issued.

The rules apply for other essential businesses as well in both communities, and Brookline is also requiring that workers wear gloves and eye protection, while businesses have to install temporary Plexiglas barriers at counters. In Salem, people who drop disposed gloves on the ground or do some other similar form of littering will get a fine of $50 for the first offense, $150 for the second offense, and $300 for the third offense.
