Governor Baker Signs Order That Requires Workers and Customers at Massachusetts Restaurants to Wear Masks

As most Boston-area communities have orders requiring restaurant workers and customers to wear masks as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Governor Charlie Baker has signed an order that should lessen the confusion as to which cities and towns have this requirement.

In his press conference today, Governor Baker said that an order is being put in place that requires people to wear masks or other forms of protective face coverings when in public areas where they aren't able to practice social distancing, which for all intents and purposes means that people will now need to wear masks when getting takeout in restaurants. The order does not apply to children under the age of two, and it also does not apply to those who have medical issues that could be exacerbated by wearing a mask.

The executive order goes into effect on Wednesday, May 6.
