According to an article in The Boston Globe, Bella Luna and The Milky Way in Jamaica Plain have closed for good after being shuttered temporarily since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a Facebook post from the Amory Street business saying the following:
After several months of considering all options, we have concluded that we cannot reopen Bella Luna & The Milky Way. We are heartbroken to announce that we will remain closed permanently. The mission of our business is to gather people together in groups, to foster social closeness --the opposite of social distancing. Gathering in groups is not going to be a safe activity until there is a widely-available vaccine or treatment. We are not comfortable putting our team members and guests at risk of contracting the virus while working and dining in our space. Also, the public health hazards of Covid-19 will exist for over a year; and without being able to operate at full capacity, our business is not financially sustainable.
Bella Luna and The Milky Way had once been located on Centre Street in Hyde Square, with the latter featuring bowling in the basement of the space. The two places--which had been in that site since 1993--moved to the old Haffenreffer Brewery complex on Amory Street in 2009 where it featured an outdoor patio, Italian-American and comfort food dishes, craft beer and cocktails, and a variety of entertainment including live music, dance nights, comedy shows, and more, while also supporting countless local artists over the years.
The address for Bella Luna and The Milky Way was 284 Amory Street, Jamaica Plain MA, 02130.
