An eclectic Chinese-American restaurant in Boston's Fenway neighborhood may be done as a restaurant, though the business will likely continue in other ways.
According to a source who sent us a note last night, Mei Mei on Park Drive will probably not reopen as a restaurant, with a blog entry within the website of the business seeming to confirm this, as owner Irene Li says the following:
As I look around today at the piled up chairs and tables and the storage shelves enjoying indefinite residence in their places, it's apparent: this is not a restaurant. Now, in the seventh month of the pandemic, I can say that with certainty....In July, as we re-introduced hot food and doubled down on virtual classes, I said 'this is not a restaurant, at least not exactly,' But today, with increasing certainty, I'm preparing myself to say: 'this will not be a restaurant again.'
Li indicates that Mei Mei does plan to stay in its space while looking at such options as selling prepared food to-go, offering meal kits, teaching classes, and selling dumplings at the storefront along with farmers markets and Flora's Wine Bar in West Newton--and perhaps eventually at local grocery stores as well.
Mei Mei, which first opened its restaurant on Park Drive in 2013, started out as a food truck the previous year.
The address for Mei Mei is 506 Park Drive, Boston, MA, 02215. Its website can be found at https://www.meimeiboston.com/
