A rustic watering hole in an out-of-the-way location north of Boston is shutting down after more than 70 years in business.
According to an article in the Lowell Sun, George's Cafe in Dracut is closing its doors, as owners Penny Dowd and her mother Blanche Mahaleris are selling the bar, which sits at the corner of Honora Avenue and Textile Avenue. The post mentions that George Papafagos, who was the great grandfather of Mahaleris's late husband Charlie, opened the place up around 1946, with the place including a pool table and a piano, according to another Lowell Sun article.
It is not yet known who might be buying George's Cafe, nor is it known what might become of the place, so keep checking back for updates.
The address for George's Cafe is 570 Textile Avenue, Dracut, MA, 01826.
