What Da Chick Boston Is Opening in the Former Matilda's Space in East Watertown

A new restaurant featuring chicken and rice is on its way to the western suburbs, opening where a longtime eatery known for its sandwiches had been.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, What Da Chick Boston is opening in the former Matilda's space in East Watertown, with the Crawford Street spot apparently offering Thai chicken rice based on a photo on the restaurant's Facebook page. No opening date has been given for the new place, though the post--which was from July 20--says "almost done" so it could be opening soon.

Thai chicken rice is also known as Hainanese chicken rice, which is typically found as a street-food dish in Thailand and which usually consists of chicken, rice, and sweet chili sauce along with such ingredients as ginger, garlic, and scallions.

The address for What Da Chick Boston (and the now-closed Matilda's) is 1 Crawford Street, Watertown, MA, 02472.

[November 10 update: The Facebook page for the place indicates that What Da Chick Boston soft-opened yesterday, though it will be closed today.]
