Jamaica Jeff's in Belmont Center Has Closed

A dining spot in the western suburbs that featured Caribbean fare--and which opened not too long before the pandemic began--has closed its doors.

According to an article from the Belmont Citizen-Herald and Wicked Local, Jamaica Jeff's in Belmont Center is no longer in business, with owner Jeffrey Lasseter saying that "It's a minor miracle I stayed open as long as I did. We get to a point where we have to make hard decisions. The best decision financially was to shut this down." Lasseter also wished that Massachusetts could be more like Florida, adding that "We're the same human beings here. Up here, we have this doomsday attitude. People are gripped with fear about going out to eat." The article mentions that Lasseter said the town was supportive to him, especially those in the police and fire departments, stating that "I believe in Belmont. The potential is there. It's a very special place That's why I keep my family here."

Lasseter, whose resume includes being a Central Intelligence Agency officer and a U.S. diplomat, first opened Jamaica Jeff's in the fall of 2019.

The address for the now-closed Jamaica Jeff's was 61 Leonard Street, Belmont, MA, 02478.
