Japanese Restaurant Coming to Former Ben Franklin Space in Belmont's Cushing Square

A new restaurant featuring Japanese dishes is on its way to Belmont, and it has a connection to several other dining spots in the Greater Boston area.

According to multiple sources (via a Belmontonian article), Jack Sy is planning to open a restaurant in the old Ben Franklin space (and more recently, Hollingworth 5 & 10 and Belmont 5 & 10) in Cushing Square, with the Trapelo Road eatery expected to offer shareable plates, sushi, ramen, teppanyaki, katsudon, and more. Sy currently runs Number One Taste on Trapelo Road in Belmont as well as other locations of that dining spot in Arlington, Melrose, and Watertown.

The upcoming restaurant does not yet have a name, nor is it known when exactly it might open; as soon as we get more information, we will post it here.

The address for the new dining spot in Cushing Square will be 89 Trapelo Road, Belmont, MA, 02478.

[April 26, 2023 update: A new article from the Belmontonian indicates that the new restaurant, which will be called Hanami, plans to open May 15. (Thanks to a poster on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page for bringing this to our attention.)]

[August 17, 2023 update: Hanami has not yet opened, but a Google search shows that it now plans to open on September 1.]
