[Ed note: This article was updated on August 14 to reflect confirmation that a new restaurant is indeed moving into the space.]
A North Shore restaurant that resided in an historic space has closed down.
According to a source, Windward Grille Restaurant in Essex is now shuttered, confirming what we had heard earlier this summer about its pending closure. The dining spot, which was located on Route 133 east of the town center, was known mainly for its classic American fare and regional dishes, including a variety of seafood options; the farmhouse in which it resided dates back to the 1600s.
Our source tells us that an Italian restaurant may be going into the space, though we haven't been able to confirm this as of yet.
The address for the now-closed Windward Grille Restaurant was 109 Eastern Avenue (Route 133), Essex, MA, 01929.
[August 14 update: According to Twitter posts from @swixvonflaubert, a new Italian restaurant called Vita Bella Ristorante is moving into the former Windward Grille space, with its website being at https://www.vitabellaristorante.com/]
