News Elsewhere: Pipe Dream Brewing in Londonderry, NH, Is Closing

A brewery in Southern New Hampshire that was the subject of a federal investigation last summer is shutting down.

According to an article in the Union Leader, Pipe Dream Brewing in Londonderry is slated to close its doors on February 2, with a Facebook post from the business confirming this, saying that that will be its final day of operation. The Union Leader article mentions that five months ago, a U.S. Department of Labor investigation into the company led to over $900,000 in withheld tips, back wages, and liquidated damages for 44 brewery workers, while a dol.gov page quotes Wage and Hour Division District Director Steven McKinney who says that "The U.S. Department of Labor found Pipe Dream Brewing violated federal law that forbids managers, supervisors and employers from participating in tip pools or pocketing any portion of employees' tips for any purpose....As the case's outcome shows, denying employees their full legal wages and keeping employees' tips can have costly consequences for employers."

Pipe Dream Brewing first opened nine years ago, being known in part for its West Coast-inspired beers.

The address for Pipe Dream Brewing is 49 Harvey Road (Unit 4), Londonderry, NH, 03053.
