Bintimani to Leave Roxbury After Eviction, Will Reopen in Providence

A beloved West African restaurant in Boston is saying farewell to the city after being evicted from its space, and it will be reborn in Providence.

According to an article in The Boston Globe, Bintimani in Roxbury's Nubian Square (formerly Dudley Square) has lost its home on Harrison Avenue and has been given 30 days to leave the space. The post says that owner Sahr Josiah-Faeduwor and his family will be opening the Sierra Leonean restaurant back up on Westminster Street in the heart of downtown Providence this summer and that he hopes to "innovate with food and inspire other entrepreneurs." The original location of Bintimani first opened approximately 12 years ago and has been known for such dishes as cassava leaves, black-eyed peas, fish stew, pepper soup with chicken, beef patties, kebabs, fried chicken, and more.

The old address for Bintimani was 1127 Harrison Avenue in Roxbury, while the new address will be 326 Westminster Street in Providence.

The Stoughton Diner Has Closed for Good

A diner in the southern suburbs of Boston that had temporarily closed this past fall is now closed for good.

According to an article from Wicked Local and the Stoughton Journal, the Stoughton Diner is no longer in business, with a sign out front saying that owner Joy Harding-Dahn has "chosen to move on with other endeavors. I appreciate the time spent here at the diner. Sorry for the inconvenience." The article says that the Washington Street eatery, which first opened in October of 2018, shuttered on November 25 for what looked to be a vacation that would last approximately one month, but the diner remained closed through the holiday season and beyond, and Harding-Dahn gave the keys to the landlord on Sunday.

In addition to diner food, the Stoughton Diner also served West African fare on weekends, including Liberian cuisine.

Obosa Restaurant Is Opening in Roslindale

A West African restaurant is on its way to a Boston neighborhood that saw its only West African eatery move away five years ago.

According to a post from Universal Hub, Obosa is going to be opening in Roslindale, with the Belgrade Avenue dining spot taking over the space where a number of other restaurants have been, including Rustica Pizza, Prime Time Pizza & Subs, Arbri Cafe, Boston Brickhouse, and Cafe Apollonia. The article says that the 49-seat eatery will be run by Gloria Omoregbee and that it will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, though it is not yet known what dishes might be on its menu, so stay tuned for updates.

As Universal Hub indicates, a Nigerian restaurant called Suya Joint moved from Roslindale to Dudley Square (now Nubian Square) in Roxbury, with the Roslindale location shutting down in early 2015 and the Roxbury location opening in early 2016.

Sethji's and Dugu Open in Medfield

A couple of to-go spots have opened in the same space in the southwest suburbs of Boston, and they both feature cuisines from far away.

According to a source, Sethji's and Dugu are now open in Medfield, with the former featuring South Indian fare and the latter featuring West African fusion cuisine. The two Park Street businesses offer food items that can be ordered online to pick up, and Dugu also offers delivery service to Medfield and some of the nearby communities.

Suya Joint in Roslindale Moving from Roslindale to Roxbury

It looks like one of the only restaurants in Boston that serves Nigerian food is moving.

Eater Boston is reporting that Suya Joint in Roslindale is closing in preparation for a move from its current Poplar Street location to Dudley Square in Roxbury. The article says that its final day in business in Roslindale Village is later this week, though it is not known whether the last day is Friday, January 29 or Saturday, January 30 (a note on the restaurant's Facebook page says "Friday, January 30"). It appears that the eatery will open in its new space in Roxbury sometime this spring.

Suya Joint first opened in February of 2012, moving into the space where the Bangkok Cafe had once been; the dining spot offers West African cuisine, with an emphasis on Nigerian fare.
