Hummus v'Hummus at The Street Chestnut Hill Has Closed

A fast-casual spot a few miles west of Boston that offered salad, rice, and hummus bowls has shut down, though the business itself will continue on.

According to a source, Hummus v'Hummus at The Street Chestnut is no longer in business, with an Instagram post from the place over the weekend saying that the "Chestnut Hill location...had its last service yesterday. Thank you so much for all the love Chestnut Hill and thank you for the opportunity and support." We have been told that Hummus v'Hummus will continue catering and will also do delivery, and while its Brighton and Sharon locations are no longer in operation, something will apparently be coming to the Sharon location.

Avi Shemtov, who is behind Hummus v'Hummus, is also behind Simcha restaurant in Sharon and The Chubby Chickpea, a food truck and catering operation that was established in Canton in 2010.

Hummus v'Hummus Is Opening in the Former A La Esh Space in Sharon

A pair of quick-service dining spots featuring hummus bowls will soon be joined by a third location.

According to a Facebook post from local chef/restaurateur Avi Shemtov, Hummus v'Hummus is planning to open in Sharon on November 9, taking over the former A La Esh space in the Sharon Heights Shopping Plaza on South Main Street. Once it opens, the new eatery will join others at the Charles River Speedway on Western Avenue in Brighton and The Street Chestnut Hill, and based on those locations, expect to see hummus bowls with a rotating list of toppings including chicken shawarma, lamb, falafel, and salmon.

The address for the new location of Hummus v'Hummus in Sharon is 366 South Main Street, Sharon, MA, 02067. The website for the business can be found at https://www.hummusvhummus.com/

Hummus v'Hummus Is Opening at The Street Chestnut Hill

Several months ago, it was reported that a well-known local chef was opening a new dining spot at an open-air marketplace in Brighton. Now we have learned that a second location is in the works as well.

Both a Facebook post and a message sent by Avi Shemtov indicates that Hummus v'Hummus is planning to open at The Street Chestnut Hill, moving into a space next to Star Market. This outlet will be joining another at the Charles River Speedway on Western Avenue in Brighton, with both featuring hummus bowls with a daily rotating list of toppings, including smoked meats and veggies--and they will be combining ideas from Shemtov's Chubby Chickpea food truck along with his two restaurants. Based on a Facebook comment from Shemtov, it looks like the Chestnut Hill location could be opening early next year if all goes well.

Avi Shemtov's Instagram page can be found at https://www.instagram.com/chefavishemtov/

[September 30 update: According to a Facebook post, Hummus v'Hummus soft-opened this week at The Street Chestnut Hill, with its grand opening taking place next Thursday.]

Tahaza Hummus Kitchen in East Cambridge Has Closed

A fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant in East Cambridge has shut down after six years in business.

According to a tweet from @steevies89, Tahaza Hummus Kitchen has closed for good, with an article from Cambridge Day confirming this, quoting a worker at the dining spot--which was located at One Canal Park--as saying that "The restaurant is closed because business is no good right now, because of Covid-19. It's very, very slow and there's not so much money."

Tahaza first opened in September of 2015, offering such items as hummus bowls, rice bowls, salads, tzatziki, and falafel.

Avi Shemtov Is Opening Hummus v'Hummus at the Charles River Speedway in Brighton

A well-known local chef who is known in part for his Israeli fare is opening a dining spot at a new open-air marketplace in Brighton.

Eater Boston is reporting (via Edible Boston) that Avi Shemtov is planning to open Hummus v'Hummus at the Charles River Speedway on Western Avenue, with the latter article mentioning that the new concept combines ideas from Shemtov's Chubby Chickpea food truck and his two restaurants in Sharon--Simcha and A La Esh. Shemtov tells us that the new spot will be a small brick-and-mortar "hummusaria" featuring hummus bowls with a daily rotating list of toppings, including smoked meats and veggies. No opening date has been given for Hummus v'Hummus as of yet, though the Charles River Speedway has already seen its first dining/drinking option open, as Notch Brewing debuted this past Friday.

In addition to Hummus v'Hummus and Notch, the Charles River Speedway will also become home to a wine bar and food shop called Super Bien, a sake bar called The Koji Club [Ed Note--now open], and a new location of Somerville's Tipping Cow ice cream.
