Spoodles Soup Factory Opens in Belmont

A dining spot that specializes in soups has opened in the western suburbs of Boston.

The Belmont Citizen-Herald is reporting that Spoodles Soup Factory is now open on Trapelo Road, with owner Jose Rios saying that it is a less expensive version of the Panera shops, and with larger portions. The article says that 12 different soups are offered daily at the place along with specialty sandwiches, and that customers can bring their meals into the Studio Cinema next door. This is the second location of Spoodles Soup Factory, with the original location being in Foxboro.

Spoodles Soup Factory replaces Cafe Burrito, which first opened in the summer of 2012.

New England Soup Factory in Brookline Village Is Closing; Building to Be Demolished

A popular location of a dining spot that is known for its soups is getting ready to close, as the building in which it resides is going to be torn down.

Eater Boston is reporting (via a Chowhound poster and a Facebook thread) that New England Soup Factory in Brookline Village is shutting down over the coming weeks, as Children's Hospital is demolishing its Brookline Place building. The Facebook post from the eatery says that "In the next few weeks we will be making arrangements to move full time into our Newton location."

[September 3 update: According to an article in the Brookline TAB, New England Soup Factory has been told that it has to leave its Brookline Village location by October 1, with owner Marjorie Druker saying that she plans to close the shop within the next two weeks.]

[September 18 update: A phone call placed to New England Soup Factory in Brookline indicates that it has officially closed for good. (And as stated before, the Newton shop will remain open.)]

New England Soup Factory first opened in Brookline approximately 20 years ago, with its second location on Needham Street in Newton opening a few years later. In addition to soups, the dining spot also offers salads and sandwiches along with sides and desserts.

Zoup! Fresh Soup Company to Open in Natick

Last year, we reported that a small quick-casual restaurant chain featuring soup was closing its only Massachusetts location in downtown Boston. Now we have learned that another location of the eatery will be coming to the area.

According to a press release, Zoup! Fresh Soup Company is planning on opening at the Sherwood Plaza in Natick, with franchisees Mark and Lori Fox hoping to open the dining spot later this year. Once it opens, expect the restaurant to feature 12 rotating options of freshly-made soups that could include split pea, lobster bisque, beef barley, broccoli cheddar, and more, along with salads and sandwiches.

[January 16, 2015 update: A press release sent this week says that Zoup! Fresh Soup Company will open in Natick on January 29, with a pre-opening fundraiser also taking place on January 28 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM that will benefit the Natick Visiting Nurse Association. (Diners receive a bowl of soup, bread and a fountain drink in return for a $5.00 donation, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the organization.)]

A location of the Michigan-based Zoup! chain opened at Center Plaza in Boston's Government Center in late 2010 but it closed in the spring of 2013, citing that "the owner had health issues."

Hale and Hearty Soups Is Coming to Boston

A New York-based group of dining spots featuring soup and more is on its way to Boston.

According to a job post on the Craigslist site, Hale and Hearty Soups is going to be opening in the city's Financial District, with the eatery moving into a space on Franklin Street by Post Office Square. The Craigslist post, which describes the group of restaurants as "NYC's premier fast casual lunch spot," says that in addition to its upcoming downtown Boston location, there will be additional openings in 2015, though it does not specify exactly where.

[October 27 update: A new job post on Craigslist indicates that Hale and Hearty Soups plans to open its first Boston store in January of 2015; it is assumed that the store they are mentioning is the Franklin Street location, though they are saying "come and meet us" on November 1 in front of Macy's on Summer Street.]

[January 13, 2015 update: According to a release in The Street, Hale and Hearty Soups is opening its Franklin Street location on January 21--and it is celebrating by offering free soup that day from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM  (official opening is January 22). Hale and Hearty Soups, which first started out in 1995 and now has more than 30 shops in and around New York City, offers soups that are made from scratch along with salads, sandwiches, and an array of desserts.
