News Elsewhere: The Mill Hill Club in West Yarmouth to Be Demolished Today

A landmark nightclub on Cape Cod that closed a few years ago is saying its final farewell today.

According to an article in Cape Cod Today, the building in West Yarmouth that once housed the Mill Hill Club is being demolished this morning, with plans in place to construct a memory care facility at the site on Route 28 just east of Hyannis. The club, which first opened in the 1960s, featured such acts as Herb Reed and BB King as well as countless local bands, and it was also known for as a place to go for happy hour back in the day.

The article mentions that a Mill Hill Club Demolition Day Celebration is taking place this morning, with the public being invited to join town officials and others to say goodbye to the nightclub over a continental breakfast and coffee.

Roost Bistro Replaces The Creperie on Newbury in Boston's Back Bay

A crepe spot in Boston's Back Bay has morphed into a new restaurant, with this one focusing on New American fare.

Based on information on Facebook and Twitter, The Creperie on Newbury is now Roost Bistro (under the same ownership), with the change apparently taking place last month. The menu at the new dining spot features such items as sauteed escargot, a beet salad, a cheese slate, meatloaf, Long Island duck breast, macaroni and cheese, and roast pork tenderloin, along with beer, wine, and cocktails. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily and also features a brunch on weekends.

Roost Bistro is located at the Newbury Guest House, which is also where Patisserie on Newbury resides.

Gracie's Ice Cream Is Opening in Somerville's Union Square

It looks like a new ice cream shop is on its way to one of Somerville's hottest neighborhoods.

A photo on the Universal Hub site shows a post-it note stuck to the inside of the old Sherman Market space in Union Square, with the note saying that Gracie's Ice Cream is opening within that space. Ben Dryer of the former Sherman Market and the Sherman Cafe [ed note: now closed as well] and Aaron Cohen of @EatBoston are behind the new shop.

[November 4 update: The Boston Globe is reporting that Gracie's Ice Cream opens this Friday (November 7).]

[November 11 update: A new post on its Facebook page indicates that Gracie's had a "false start" and that they need to "take a few days/weeks to straighten some things out." As soon as the ice cream shop officially opens, we will post another update here.]

[November 24 update: An email sent today says that Gracie's opens today at 3:00 PM, and that to celebrate, anyone who buys two pints before Thanksgiving gets a free ice cream cone. Hours for the shop will be 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM on weekdays and 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM on weekends.]

Veggie Planet in Cambridge's Harvard Square to Close; Club Passim to Remain Open

A vegetarian dining spot in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge is shutting down, though the landmark music club that shares the space with the eatery will remain open.

According to a post on its Facebook page, Veggie Planet on Palmer Street is closing--though it will be business as usual at Club Passim--with the note explaining why the restaurant is closing; it states that "Since Club Passim's seating capacity was reduced in late 2011 due to fire code enforcement, and given that there is no table turnover in their concert room every night, it has become unsustainable to continue to operate Veggie Planet in that space." The post does say that they would like Veggie Planet to be able to reopen in another space under new ownership (with the hope being that it remains somewhere in Harvard Square) while they put their focus on their other eatery--Veggie Galaxy on Mass. Ave. in Central Square.

It looks like Veggie Planet will remain open until the end of August, with normal operations until then.

El Diez Argentinian Grill Food Truck to Debut in Boston

It looks like yet another new food truck is on its way to Boston, with this one featuring foods found in South America.

Eater Boston is reporting that El Diez Argentinian Grill is planning to hit the streets of the city, with the truck possibly being up and running later this month. A Facebook post from the truck indicates that it will be stationed at several spots in Boston, including in the West End, Financial District, Back Bay, and the Fenway, with a picture showing that it will offer empanadas, steak sandwiches, sausages, salads and grilled vegetables, and desserts.

[June 18 update: UrbanDaddy mentions that El Diez Argentinian Grill will debut next Tuesday (June 24), with the truck being part of an Argentine chain of eateries based in Mexico City.]

According to the EB article, El Diez Argentinian Grill may also be opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant in the area by the end of the year.
