Eddie V's Prime Seafood at the Prudential Center in Boston's Back Bay Is Closing

It looks like the Boston location of a group of high-end seafood and steak restaurants is getting ready to close down.

According to a couple of sources (including one within the restaurant industry), Eddie V's Prime Seafood at the Prudential Center in the Back Bay is shutting its doors, with a Facebook post from Boston-based musician David Lieb saying the following earlier this week:

Ok folks, this is it… all things must pass, and I regretfully announce tonight will be the LAST Monday at Eddie V's Boston for the Ron Poster Trio. They are closing the Prudential Center location on Sunday, so we hope to see any and all  who can make it. It's been a fantastic run, 3 1/2 years! We'll see you somewhere down the road. The usual … 6:30 - 9:30.

Eddie V's, which first started out in Austin in 2000 and is now headquartered in Orlando, has another restaurant locally in Burlington, which appears to be remaining in operation.

[May 16 update: A check on the place confirms that Eddie V's in the Back Bay is now closed.]

Martha's Vineyard's El Barco Is Coming to Boston's Back Bay for the Spring and Summer

[Ed note: This article was updated on March 31 to reflect new information given.]

It looks like a Mexican restaurant on Martha's Vineyard is on its way to Boston for the warmer months.

According to a licensing board hearing page, Shack Foods of Back Bay LLC has petitioned change its DBA to El Barco, with the address given being 50 Dalton Street. This also happens to be the address of a location of Summer Shack, and restaurateur Patrick Lyons is behind both Summer Shack and El Barco--and a press release sent today indicates that the plan is for El Barco to pop up within the Summer Shack space from April 17 into the spring and summer months.

The press release says that El Barco at Summer Shack will be open for lunch and dinner daily, and it will include such options as tacos, burritos, and margaritas.

The website for the Martha's Vineyard location of El Barco--which debuted in 2024--can be found at https://elbarcomv.com/ while the website for the location in Boston will be at https://elbarcoboston.com/

Willow & Ivy Is Opening in Boston's Back Bay This Spring

Last fall, it was reported that three hotel restaurants/bars in Boston's Back Bay were going to be replaced by three new spots, with two of the three now being open. Now we have learned that the third place may be very close to debuting, though with a slightly different name than originally thought.

According to an article from boston.com, Willow & Ivy is slated to open this spring (it had originally hoped to open March 15) within the Lenox Hotel on Boylston Street, taking over the former City Table space. It initially looked like the restaurant was going to be called Juniper & Ivy, but the name was changed at some point; the website for Willow & Ivy--which will be an upscale spot that features New England-inspired American fare--shows such options as tuna tartar, roasted local oysters, clam chowder, lobster pie, glazed duck breast, spring lamb, skirt steak, and more.

Once it opens, Willow & Ivy will join Sweeney's on Boylston, which replaced Solas, and The Irving, which replaced City Bar.

The Lenox Hotel sits at the corner of Boylston Street and Exeter Street, with its website being at https://www.lenoxhotel.com/ while the website for Willow & Ivy is at https://willowivyboston.com/

[April 22 update: Based on its website and social media pages, Willow & Ivy is now open.]

Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley Plans to Open in the Former Nusr-et Steakhouse Space in Boston's Back Bay

It looks like a small group of southern comfort food restaurants with roots in Texas could be expanding to Boston.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley is looking to open in the Back Bay, moving into the space on Arlington Street that had previously been home to Nusr-et Steakhouse. If approved, the new location would join the original restaurant in Dallas along with others in Chicago, Washington, DC, Charlotte, and Atlanta, and based on those locations, some of the offerings could include such items as fried green tomatoes, seafood gumbo, southern fried chicken, pork chops, chicken fried steak, shrimp and grits, fried catfish, chicken and waffles, and fried okra.

Beatnic in Boston's Back Bay Has Closed

A vegan spot in Boston that rebranded a few years ago has shut down.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Beatnic in the Back Bay is no longer in business, with a check on the website for the business seeming to indicate that all locations--including in New York City--have apparently shuttered (the website is now down). Beatnic had originally been by CHLOE, but in 2021 the group of fast-casual vegan spots emerged from bankruptcy under new ownership and had to change its name.

A couple of other Beatnics had been in the Fenway and Seaport District as well, but they shut down sometime after the bankruptcy filing, which was announced in 2020.

The address for the now-closed location of Beatnic in the Back Bay was 399 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02116.

Little Steve's Pizzeria Is Returning to Boston

A few years ago, it was reported that a decades-old pizza place in Boston was closing, and now it is coming back, apparently with a different owner.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Little Steve's Pizzeria has applied for a common victualler license to operate at its former address on Boylston Street where the Back Bay and Fenway meet, with the notice saying that it will have seating for 43 and a seasonal patio, and the notice also lists Koushik Babu Koganti as the manager; this is presumably the same Koushik Koganti who is involved with such spots as Godavari, Boston Halal, Madras Dosa, and other businesses in the local area including the upcoming Don't Tell Aunty.

Little Steve's Pizzeria, which first opened in 1968, was looking to be replaced by another restaurant in 2021, but those plans apparently fell through at some point, while Universal Hub also mentions that a dispensary had been looking to open there as well and those plans never came to fruition, either.

The address for the Little Steve's space is 1114 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02215. Its website can be found at https://www.littlestevespizza.com/

[May 12 update: According to its website, Little Steve's Pizzeria is now open.]

Sweeney's on Boylston Replacing Solas, The Irving Replacing City Bar, Juniper & Ivy Replacing City Table in Boston's Back Bay

[Ed note: This article was updated on December 18 to reflect new information out on the restaurant replacing City Table.]

Last month, it was reported that three hotel restaurants/bars in Boston's Back Bay were going to be closing, and now we have learned that all three will be replaced by new spots.

According to an article from Time Out, Sweeney's on Boylston is planning to open in the space within the Lenox Hotel where Solas currently resides, while The Irving is looking to open in the space where City Bar currently resides. The article mentions that Sweeney's, like Solas, will be an Irish pub, while The Irving will carry on the bar/cocktail lounge theme of City Bar, and both plan to open on November 1, with Solas and City Bar remaining open until then.

Time Out also says that an as-of-yet unnamed restaurant will replace City Table early next year, and that City Table will remain open until renovations begin on the space early next year. (All three concepts are being headed up by hospitality veteran Daniel Kenney, whose most recent position was executive chef at the Liberty Hotel.)

The Lenox Hotel sits at the corner of Boylston Street and Exeter Street, with its website being at https://www.lenoxhotel.com/ while the website for Sweeney's on Boylston is at https://sweeneysboston.com/ and the website for The Irving is at https://irvingatlenox.com/

The website for the new eatery mentions that it "offers a unique culinary journey with two distinct dining experiences - Sarva Café for quick, casual bites featuring a mix of American and Indian snacks, and Sarva Indian Cuisine for an elegant Indian dining experience." (The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily.)

Pho Real and Mochi Dough debuted in the summer of 2022, with the former being a Vietnamese restaurant and the latter being a location of a chain of Japanese donut shops.

Yoshida Omakase May Be Opening in the Former Cornish Pasty Co. Space in Boston's Back Bay

It looks like a new Japanese restaurant could be opening in the Back Bay of Boston, and it would be taking over the space where a British-style spot had been.

According to a Boston licensing hearing board page, a new dining spot whose parent company is called Yoshida Omakase, LLC, is seeking to acquire the liquor license from the now-closed Cornish Pasty Co., and it would be operating within that Massachusetts Avenue space. The manager listed for the proposed restaurant is Gabrielle Morriseau, who may be the same person who has been involved with Craft and CruCraft, a wine shop in Milton, and JP Seafood Cafe, a Korean and Japanese restaurant in Jamaica Plain, though we are still trying to confirm this; we are also trying to confirm whether the dining spot would indeed be called Yoshida Omakase, so keep checking back for updates.

Cornish Pasty Co., which first opened in 2016, was known for its meat and vegetarian/vegan pasty options.

The address for the proposed Yoshida Omakase is 51 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA, 02115.

Little is currently known about the upcoming concepts--including their names and menus--as the article says that the Lenox Hotel is "fine-tuning concepts, menus, and branding."

Solas is an Irish pub while City Bar is a cocktail lounge and City Table is a casual upscale restaurant.
