A longtime pizzeria in Boston has shut down.

According to a source, Rome Pizza in the city's South End is no longer in business, with a Facebook post from the Tremont Street spot saying the following:

Hi friends as some of you know, we closed Rome Pizza, marking thirty years in business. It is hard to put 3 decades into a few short paragraphs. What has remained constant through all this years is the people. We want to thank everyone who has shared this journey with us, your support Kept our business going. We will miss you and our daily routine more than we can say.as we go to the next chapter of our life I wish all the very best. George & Jocelyne

Rome Pizza was mainly a takeout place that offered pizza, calzones, subs and sandwiches, wings, fish and chips, steak tips, pasta dishes, and more.

Ciao! Pizza and Pasta to Open in Lynn

An award-winning wood-fired pizzeria in Chelsea is expanding to a few miles to the north.

According to an article from boston.com, Ciao! Pizza and Pasta is planning to open in Lynn, moving into the space on Sutton Street that had been home to Ciao Restaurant & Bar (which didn't appear to have any ownership connection to Ciao! Pizza and Pasta). The new location will be larger than the Chelsea restaurant, with seating for 70 and a full bar, though its menu will have the same options as Chelsea along with some extra dishes. It appears that Ciao! Pizza and Pasta could be opening in Lynn sometime this month if all goes as planned.

The Chelsea location of Ciao! Pizza and Pasta, which first opened on Williams Street in 2015, has gotten recognition from Boston Magazine, The Boston Globe, and the Food Network since debuting.

OTTO Pizza in South Weymouth Has Closed

The sole South Shore location of a group of pizzerias with roots up north has shut down.

According to its website, OTTO in South Weymouth is no longer in business, with its locations page showing that it has been removed from the site. The pizza spot first opened in the fall of 2023, moving into the ground floor of the Mio residential complex on Trotter Road (opposite the South Weymouth commuter rail station); currently, the closest location of OTTO to South Weymouth is in South Boston, with others being found in Andover, Arlington, Beverly, Boston's South End, the Boston/Brookline line (by BU), Brookline's Coolidge Corner, Cambridge's Harvard Square, Lynnfield, and Newburyport.

Pizza Roma in Watertown Has Closed; Bougie Pizza Co. Is Replacing It

A suburban pizzeria known for its thin-crust and Sicilian pizza options has closed, and a new pizza spot is moving into its space.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Pizza Roma in Watertown is no longer in business, with a photo showing a sign out front at the Waverley Avenue spot indicating that Bougie Pizza Co. will be coming soon to the space. No information has been given as to why Pizza Roma shut down, nor is it known what kind of pizza (and other food) Bougie Pizza Co. might offer, so keep checking back for updates.

Scrappie's Pizzeria to Open a Brick-and-Mortar Location in Boston's Beacon Hill

A popup pizza business that has become an underground favorite will be expanding to a permanent space.

According to an article from boston.com, Scrappie's Pizzeria is planning to open a brick-and-mortar shop in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston, moving into the former Figs space on Charles Street. Founder Andrew Blau has been working out of Brick Street Bagels in South Boston, with his pizzas made from dough using pulverized leftover bread from a few unnamed Beacon Hill dining spots, according to an earlier Boston Magazine article.

If all goes well, the permanent location of Scrappie's could be opening in late September or early October.

Pinsa Piazza Plans to Open in the Former Taranta Space in Boston's North End

Late last year, it looked like a new restaurant serving all-day breakfast and pizza was looking to open in the North End of Boston, and now it appears that the place may have a different name, though it isn't known if the exact concept will be the same.

According to a source, Pinsa Piazza is planning to open on Hanover Street in the former Taranta space, with a photo showing a sign mentioning that it will be featuring Roman pizza made via a 72-hour fermentation process. A check within the bizapedia.com website indicates that the upcoming spot has a connection to Dolvero LLC, which had been looking to open Maria Forno in that space (and at the time, it was noted that the name could just be a placeholder).

Blue Square Pizza Opens in Natick

Earlier this year, it was reported that a pair of pizza spots west of Boston that feature four different types of pizza would be expanding to a third location that would be a bit closer to the city, and now we have learned that it is up and running. 

According to its website, Blue Square Pizza is now open in Natick, and as stated in an earlier article here, it has moved into The Block, a new development on Main Street in the center of town. The new location, which focuses on takeout, joins others in Hopkinton and Northborough, and it offers such options as New York-style, grandma-style (which is more or less a thin-crust version of Sicilian), Chicago cracker thin (Chicago's version of bar/tavern pizza), and Detroit-style pizza.

FiDO Pizza in Allston Is Closing

A pizza spot from a local restaurant group is closing after being in business for less than a year.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, FiDO Pizza in Allston is getting ready to close, with an Instagram post from the Western Avenue spot saying the following:

We have made the difficult decision that FiDo Pizza will close its doors after dinner service this Sunday, June 21. It's a wonderful restaurant...we're disappointed...came at a wrong time. We are very proud of what FiDO Pizza brought to Lower Allston and of the amazing job the FiDO Pizza team did in offering great food and hospitality each and every day of service. We want to thank and will miss our Lower Allston neighbors and wish them all the best. And lastly, we'd like to thank you, our FiDO Pizza friends and family, for joining us along the way.

FiDO Pizza first opened late last summer, with Traveler Street Hospitality (Bar Mezzana, Shore Leave, No Relation, Black Lamb) being behind it.

According to multiple sources, Woody's Grill & Tap in the Fenway section of Boston is closing after business hours today, with a boston.com article confirming that the Hemenway Street spot is indeed shutting down. Woody's, which first opened in the late 1990s, has been a favorite among locals and college students alike over the years, offering pizza, wings, tenders, burgers, steak tips, fish and chips, bolognese, and more.

Blaze Pizza in Boston's Fenway Neighborhood Has Closed

Another Boston-area location of a group of pizza restaurants formerly based in California and now headquartered in Georgia has shut down, and now only one remains in the region.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Blaze Pizza in the Fenway section of Boston is no longer in business and has its windows papered over, with a check on the website seeming to confirm this, saying that it is now closed. The chain of pizzerias once had locations in the Theatre District, by Boston University, and in Burlington, but the only one still operating is at One Canal Park in East Cambridge (another can be found in Nashua, NH).

Blaze Pizza first started out in 2012, with investors early on including Tom Werner, Maria Shriver, and LeBron James.

Champion Pizza Plans to Open in Downtown Crossing in Boston

It looks like a new pizza spot may be opening in the heart of Boston.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Champion Pizza is planning to open in Downtown Crossing, moving into a space on Washington Street near where it meets School Street and Water Street. The notice mentions that the proposed eatery would have seating for 10 on the ground floor along with pizza ovens and a prep area while having a total of just over 1,000 square feet of space on two levels (the basement would have food equipment such as refrigerators and a dough mixer), and that the manager listed is Mensure Balyen.

It looks like the address for the proposed Champion Pizza would be 294 Washington Street, Boston, MA, 02109.

Joe's Pizza Is Opening in Boston's Fenway Neighborhood

It looks like a second Boston-area location of a highly-rated pizzeria based in New York City is on the way.

According to a Bluesky thread from @l1samak.bsky.social‬, Joe's Pizza is planning to open in the city's Fenway neighborhood, joining another in Cambridge's Harvard Square that debuted in 2023. A licensing board voting agenda page within the City of Boston website confirms this, saying that the proposed outlet of the pizza spot is looking to open on Boylston Street and would include a service counter, indoor seating, and a year-round patio, with the place being open daily for lunch and dinner.

Joe's Pizza offers NYC-style slices of thin-crust pizza, with the original location being found in Manhattan's Greenwich Village.

Sugar's Hot Pizza & Subs Is Opening in Boston's Seaport District

A new pizzeria and sandwich shop is on its way to the Boston waterfront, and it has an ownership connection to another fast-casual dining spot across the street.

According to an Instagram post from the business, Sugar's Hot Pizza & Subs is planning to open in the city's Seaport District, moving into a space on Northern Avenue across from Stubbys. The post for the upcoming eatery mentions that it is "from the guys who brought you @eatstubbys" and that the hope is it will open sometime in May.

Stubbys first opened in the Seaport District in 2023, joining its original location on Nantucket and offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week.

CeCarré Pizza & Provisions Opens at the Prudential Center in Boston's Back Bay

A new pizza spot has come to Boston, and it takes over the space where another pizzeria had been until shuttering as it gets ready to make a move.

According to a source (Gary Goldblatt), CeCarré Pizza & Provisions is now open at the Prudential Center in the Back Bay, with an Instagram post from the business saying that it has moved into the former Descendant Detroit Style Pizza space. The new eatery offers Roman-style pizza with a variety of toppings including ones with global influences (some toppings include chicken tikka masala, caviar, edible gold, sumac, mint, and harissa chicken). In addition to pizza, CeCarré Pizza & Provisions also offers such options as meatballs, arancini, salads, sandwiches, cannoli, and cookies.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Descendant Detroit Style Pizza would be moving from the Pru to Revere Beach.

Flying Boar Pizza & Kitchen Opens in Walpole

A new spot that serves pizza and more has come to the southwest suburbs of Boston.

According to its Instagram page, Flying Boar Pizza & Kitchen is now open in Walpole, with its address indicating that it has moved into a space on Old Post Road just off Route 1 on the Sharon line (and just south of the Route 95 intersection). The new dining spot offers pizza, wings, empanadas, and sandwiches, and this is the same Flying Boar that started out as a ghost kitchen and caterer at Southwest Park in Westwood a bit more than two years ago, being known in part for its Caribbean-inspired sandwiches.

According to a message from Scott Whitley of Wicked Bites, Jimmy's Famous Pizza in North Andover is no longer in business, with the website for the Osgood Street eatery saying the following:

After 25 incredible years of dough, sauce, and smiles, the time has come for us to hang up our aprons....Since we first opened a quarter-century ago, this shop has been so much more than just a business—it's been our home. We’ve watched your kids grow up, shared in your Friday night traditions, and been honored to be a small part of your lives, one slice at a time. To our loyal customers: Thank you. According to a couple of sources along with an article from What Now Boston, Ciao Restaurant & Bar in Lynn is no longer in business, with an Instagram post from the Sutton Street spot confirming this while also indicating that new owners are taking over the space, saying that "we prepare to pass this business into new hands in the coming months." The restaurant first opened in the spring of 2021, offering such items as pizza, arancini, chicken parmigiana, gnocchi with shredded pork shoulder, rigatoni bolognese, cavatappi con pesto, and fettucine scampi.

A check on the Regina's website confirms this, as the Boylston Street location has been removed from the site.

Pizzeria Regina first started out in the North End in 1926.

Descendant Detroit Style Pizza Is Moving from the Prudential Center in Boston's Back Bay to Revere Beach

The Boston location of a pizzeria with roots in Canada is moving to a seaside location just north of the city.

According to a message sent from the business, Descendant Detroit Style Pizza is going to be moving from the Prudential Center in the Back Bay to a new location at Revere Beach, and we have been told that the Pru location is now officially closed. If all goes as planned, the new location of Descendant could be opening at Revere Beach in May.

Descendant Detroit Style Pizza, which first started out in Toronto, opened its Boston location in February of 2025, offering a variety of Detroit-style pizzas--a rectangular thick-crust pizza cooked in a pan and is vaguely similar in looks to Sicilian pizza but also has some similarities to Chicago-style deep-dish pizza as well.
