Ciao! Pizza and Pasta to Open in Lynn

An award-winning wood-fired pizzeria in Chelsea is expanding to a few miles to the north.

According to an article from boston.com, Ciao! Pizza and Pasta is planning to open in Lynn, moving into the space on Sutton Street that had been home to Ciao Restaurant & Bar (which didn't appear to have any ownership connection to Ciao! Pizza and Pasta). The new location will be larger than the Chelsea restaurant, with seating for 70 and a full bar, though its menu will have the same options as Chelsea along with some extra dishes. It appears that Ciao! Pizza and Pasta could be opening in Lynn sometime this month if all goes as planned.

The Chelsea location of Ciao! Pizza and Pasta, which first opened on Williams Street in 2015, has gotten recognition from Boston Magazine, The Boston Globe, and the Food Network since debuting.

The address for the new location Ciao! Pizza and Pasta in Lynn is 41 Sutton Street, Lynn, MA, 01904. The website for the Chelsea location is at https://www.ciaopizzaandpasta.com/ [Ed note: There is also a location of Ciao! Pizza and Pasta in Somerville as well.]

The NexMex Thing in Peabody Is Closing, Moving to Lynn

A Mexican restaurant on the North Shore is going to be leaving its current location and will be reopening in another space not all that far away.

According to a Facebook post from the business, The NexMex Thing in Peabody is closing and will move to a new space in Lynn, with the post saying the following:

After 10 incredible years, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors in Peabody....This decision was not made lightly. The prolonged road work in the area, ongoing for the past two years and expected to continue for 2-3 more years, has significantly impacted accessibility to our restaurant. The resulting detours and street closures ultimately forced us to discontinue lunch service and made it increasingly difficult to operate sustainably. While this chapter is coming to a close, our connection to Peabody remains strong. We will be actively looking for opportunities to return to the city in the near future.  Until then, we will relocate Nexmex to 125 Lynnfield Street in Lynn early June. Our last day in Peabody will be April 30th, 2026.

The post also refers diners to their other dining spot (Pots, a hotpot restaurant at 77 Main Steet in Peabody).

The current address for The NexMex Thing is 5 Central Street, Peabody, MA, 01960. Its website can be found at https://nexmexthing.com/

Update: Prezza, Tonno (Both Locations), Blue Ox All Going into Hibernation As of December 14; Will Reopen in February

Four well-known restaurants that are all under the same ownership are the latest to announce their plans to shut down for the time being.

According to a source, Prezza in Boston's North End, Tonno in Gloucester and Wakefield, and the Blue Ox in Lynn are all planning to shutter as of Monday, December 14, with a Facebook post from Prezza saying that the decision was made due to "the current rise in Covid cases, new government restrictions, and overall consumer confidence in dining out." The post mentions that the hibernation will continue until the end of the year and they will make a decision at some point as to when in 2021 they think it would be best to reopen.

Anthony Caturano is behind all four restaurants, with Prezza being an Italian dining spot, both Tonno restaurants focusing on Italian seafood dishes, and the Blue Ox offering mostly New American fare.

[February 17, 2021 update: According to multiple social media posts, Prezza, Tonno, and the Blue Ox are all open once again.]

Bianchi's Pizza Says Farewell to the Renzo's Space at Revere Beach

A beloved pizzeria that lost its home a couple of years ago only to find a new home in a nearby dining spot has now left that space, though hope remains that it will open in its very own space next year.

According to multiple sources (including a Facebook post from Boston's Wicked North Shore along with Sage Carbone, who messaged us about it), Bianchi's Pizza has said goodbye to its space within Renzo's at Revere Beach, with the place saying in a post that it still has plans to open on the Lynn/Saugus line as reported here earlier. In addition, though there had been chatter that Renzo's might be closing, a post from that place indicates that it is still open for business.

Bianchi's had been open on Revere Beach Boulevard for nearly 70 years until closing in the summer of 2018 to make room for new development. The pizzeria soon reopened within Renzo's, which is also on Revere Beach Boulevard, while news subsequently came out that Bianchi's was planning to eventually move into the O'Brien's space on Boston Street near where Lynn and Saugus meet.

Bianchi's is hoping to open in its new home in the early part of 2021, though that is not a given at this point in time, and the post from them seems to indicate that more than one location could be on the way, so stay tuned for updates as they come in.

Update: Lynn, Medford, Swampscott, Beverly, Revere, Quincy Enforce Stricter Rules for Restaurants, Customers

[Ed note: This article was updated on April 16 to reflect the fact that Revere has been added to this list.]

On Friday, we reported that two communities in the Greater Boston area are requiring both restaurant workers and customers to wear protective face covering. Now we have learned that several other communities in the local area have instituted similarly strict rules as well.

According to a post from masslive.com, an article from itemlive.com, a community update page, and another update page, the city of Lynn is now requiring restaurant workers to wear masks or another form of face covering when interacting with the public or other employees, while Swampscott, Medford, and Beverly are all requiring both restaurant workers and customers to wear face covering, with the difference being that customers in Lynn are not allowed to go into restaurants, instead having to rely on curbside pickup, drive-thru, or delivery. (It looks like diners in Swampscott can go into restaurants to pick up their meals for now, as can Medford and Beverly diners.)

Late last week, it was learned that both Brookline and Salem are now requiring that restaurant workers and customers wear a mask or some other kind of protective face covering while inside dining spots.

[April 17 update: A poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page states that Revere is now requiring restaurant workers to wear masks inside, and like Lynn, customers are no longer allowed to go into dining spots, instead having to rely on curbside pickup, drive-thru, or delivery. (This has been confirmed by the city's website.) In addition, the Quincy Is Everything Facebook page states that both restaurant workers and customers in Quincy are now required to wear protective face covering as well, with customers having to do so when walking into a dining establishment to pick up food.]

D'Amici's Bakery Has Closed All of Its Locations

A local group of bakeries that first started out more than 25 years ago has apparently disappeared from the landscape.

According to several social media posts, including one within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, D'Amici's Bakery in Melrose and Lynn have closed, with the Melrose closure being confirmed by the Patch and the Lynn closure being mentioned on The REAL 'You Know You're From Lynn' Facebook group page. Other social media posts indicate that the Reading location of the bakery has shut down as well, including a recent post on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants showing that the same "out of business" sign at the Melrose and Lynn locations is also shown at the Reading shop. (Phone calls to the Reading location are going unanswered this morning.)

D'Amici's Bakery was established in 1993 and at one point had four locations, including another outlet in Lynn that shut down earlier this year; the shops offered such items as breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, pies, sandwiches, and coffee. A Facebook post from one of the original owners indicates that the bakeries changed hands in 2017.

Bruno's Bar + Burger in Lynn to Become Bruno's Tequila Bar & Cocina

by Marc Hurwitz

A burger spot that temporarily closed a few years ago has apparently closed for good, and it looks like a Mexican restaurant with a somewhat similar name will replace it.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group along with a couple of sources, Bruno's Bar + Burger in Lynn is no longer in business, with this being confirmed within the North Shore Eats Facebook group. Another poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants thread mentions that a new spot called Bruno's Tequila Bar & Cocina is taking over the Western Avenue space, and a Facebook page for the place shows that it will indeed be opening there, classifying itself as a Mexican restaurant and saying that it will be "serving the freshest Mexican and Latin food with rumba and drink of all types!" The poster says that the new spot could be opening sometime next month, though no specific opening date has been given as of yet.

Bruno's Bar + Burger, which first opened in early 2015, closed its doors in August of 2016 but reopened--apparently under new ownership--a couple of months later.

The address for the upcoming Bruno's Tequila Bar & Cocina is 858 Western Avenue, Lynn, MA, 01905. Its Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/brunostequilabar/

The person behind a pop-up restaurant that focuses in part on noodles is going to be opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant.

According to an article in Boston Magazine, chef Rachel Miller is opening Nightshade Noodle Bar in Lynn, with the restaurant getting its name from her Nightshade pop-up which has done a number of dinners, events, and series over the past couple of years, including at some of the best-known restaurants in the Boston area. Expect to see Vietnamese-influenced dishes including noodles, shellfish, sandwiches, and more at the 26-seat restaurant, which will also include a bar area and will be open for both lunch and dinner. Revolution Pie + Pint in Lynn Has Closed; Brew on the Grid to Remain Open

by Marc Hurwitz

A pizza spot on the North Shore has closed after only a brief time in business.

According to a source, Revolution Pie + Pint in Lynn is no longer in business, with a Facebook post from Jaime Figueroa (who had been involved with the Central Avenue spot) confirming this, saying that Brew on the Grid, which is in the same space, will remain open. Both Revolution Pie + Pint and Brew on the Grid opened last August, and around the time of their opening, we had reported that another location of Revolution Pie + Pint was going to be opening in Worcester; that location actually debuted earlier this month. (Another location of Brew on the Grid can be found in Worcester as well.)

The Grid Hospitality Group, which runs both Revolution Pie + Pint and Brew on the Grid, is also behind Craft Table & Bar, which has a location in East Boston.

Bianchi's Pizza Plans to Open in Lynn

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a landmark Revere Beach pizzeria may have found a new home.

According to a source, Bianchi's Pizza is planning to reopen in Lynn, with a licensing hearing page seeming to confirm this, saying that the now-closed JD's Sports Bar on Lewis Street is seeking to transfer its license to Bianchi's which would presumably be at the same location. The notice also mentions another item that our source tells us--that Marcos Tacos, which had been hoping to open at Revere Beach, may be looking to open in the former O'Brien's space on Boston Street. (Interestingly enough, the parent company of both spots is M&M Restaurants LLC.)

Bianchi's, which had been in business for nearly 70 years, left its home on Revere Beach Boulevard to make way for an apartment development that is being built at the site; the pizzeria subsequently moved its ovens to Renzo's just up the street where its pizzas continue to be offered.

[December 23 update: A page on the Bizapedia site indicates that Julius Sokol and Matthew Gateman are behind the company; the former has been involved in the purchases of the buildings housing several Boston bars, including The Tam, Mary Ann's, the Beacon Hill Pub, and Sullivan's Tap, while a source tells us that the latter is related to the people involved with Renzo's. (The Manta site shows Jack Gateman being behind Renzo's.)]

[January 2, 2019 update: The Daily Item confirms that Bianchi's Pizza is indeed coming to Lynn, though it will be taking over the O'Brien's space on Boston Street while Marcos Tacos plans to take over the JD's Sports Bar space on Lewis Street (the Boston Street space has more parking and is better suited to takeout, according to Nicholas Venezia of M&M Restaurants). In addition, the article says that Bianchi's will continue to offer pizza at Renzo's, so the Lynn outlet will end up being a second location of sorts.]

[January 18, 2019 update: A new article from The Daily Item mentions that Bianchi's could be opening its new location in Lynn in two to three months.]

[December 3, 2019 update: A message from Patrick Maguire of Maguire Promotions & Hospitality Consulting indicates that Bianchi's in Lynn is now looking at a possible opening date sometime in May of 2020.]
