One of the top-rated breweries in New England--if not America--is coming to Boston.
According to an article from The Boston Globe, Tree House Brewing Company in Charlton is opening a beer garden at the Prudential Center in the Back Bay this summer, with a page within the brewery's website showing that they will be having "four evenings of music, beer, wine, and food" on the lawn of the south garden on June 13, June 27, July 18, and July 25. The beer garden will feature a rotating list of eight beers on tap with admission to the events being free (beers will be $8 each).
Tree House Brewing Company has received much praise since debuting in 2011 in Monson; the brewery, which moved to Charlton in 2017 and whose beers are not available in restaurants, bars, or stores, currently has 6 of its beers included among the top 20 listed on the Beer Advocate site.

Table by Jen Royle in Boston's North End Is Getting a Liquor License
A family-style Italian dining spot that made a big splash when it first opened earlier this year will soon be offering alcohol.
According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Table by Jen Royle on Hanover Street in the North End is seeking to acquire a beer and wine license (with liqueurs) that is currently held by Ducali Pizzeria on nearby Causeway Street. Based on another notice within the same page, it looks like the liquor license for Filippo Ristorante would be used for both Ducali and Filippo (which are owned by the same family), allowing this to potentially happen.
Ever since Table by Jen Royle debuted in January, there has been chatter about the place getting a liquor license in order to be able to serve wine, but until now, the dining spot has not been able to do so, saying on its website that "We are currently and TEMPORARILY a DRY restaurant. We do not serve alcohol at dinner or brunch. BYOB is prohibited in the North End." (The restaurant apparently had to wait six months for a license in the neighborhood to become available.)

Avenue Kitchen and Bar in Somerville's Ball Square Opens Today in Former Pescatore Space
A brand new gastropub opens today in Somerville, moving into the space where a longtime favorite for Italian food had been.
According to an article from Boston Magazine, Avenue Kitchen and Bar soft-opens in the former Pescatore space today in Ball Square and begins to take reservations tomorrow, with the Boston Avenue restaurant and bar offering Detroit-style pizza (a thick-crust pan pizza that is only found in a few spots around the Greater Boston area), duck wings, lamb spare ribs, salmon poke, fried chicken sandwiches, burgers, steamed mussels, Delmonico steak, cauliflower fajitas, and a variety of grain bowls along with craft beer, wine, cocktails, and Fernet on tap. The space includes a dining area, a small bar, and a back patio--and as was the case with Pescatore, a separate area is set up specifically for takeout. Avenue Kitchen and Bar will initially be open for dinner only, with brunch and lunch service coming later.
Pescatore closed down in January after being in business for approximately 13 years; it was known in part for its Italian seafood dishes and its pasta.

Fuku Could Be Opening More Locations in the Boston Area
It looks like a casual fried chicken spot that opened its first Boston location last fall--and that has a celebrity chef and restaurateur behind it--could eventually be joined by other outlets in the local area.
Eater Boston is reporting (via Eater New York) that David Chang's Fuku is planning to expand, with new CEO Alex Muñoz-Suarez looking at opening new outlets in Boston as well as other East Coast markets such as Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Muñoz-Suarez says that "In my mind I see Fuku as a gateway to all of [the Momofuku restaurant group]....I think our guests are a much more wider band of representation of America's population than the guests you get in Ko or Ssäm Bar." No specific plans are in place yet for the possible new locations of Fuku in the Boston area, so keep checking back for updates as they come in.

Jacob Wirth in Boston's Theater District May Become JW's Sports Bar and Restaurant
Last week it was learned that a landmark Boston restaurant and bar that has been closed for a year could be undergoing an ownership change. Now we have learned that the new owners apparently plan to change the concept of the place.
According to an article from Universal Hub, Jacob Wirth in the Theater District may be replaced by JW's Sports Bar and Restaurant, and that as mentioned earlier, William Gateman who has been involved with such local spots as the Beacon Hill Pub, The Tam, and Sullivan's Tap is one of the people behind it along with business partner Nancy Maida. The post says that the plan is to renovate the building with "due respect" to the structure--it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places--while building out the restaurant itself, with the work possibly taking up to a year to complete once they are given the green light. The owners will need to meet with three neighborhood groups before any action can be taken on the purchase of Jacob Wirth's liquor license, with one such meeting slated to take place next week.
Jacob Wirth was the second-oldest continually operating restaurant in the city until shutting down last June; the place first opened in 1868 and was known in part for its German dishes, extensive beer list, and piano singalongs.

Spicy World Is Opening in Malden
A restaurant in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood that claims to be the first of its kind in the entire state is expanding northward.
According to a source, Spicy World is opening in Malden, moving into a space on Pleasant Street where Oppa's Kitchen and Bar had been until closing last year. Our source indicates that like the original location on Beach Street in Chinatown, the new outlet of Spicy World will feature Sichuan skewer pots, a food item that they say they introduced to Massachusetts and which diners are given a broth that they choose along with sticks of meat and vegetables and such items as noodles and freshly-made dumplings that are added to the broth (which typically includes warming ingredients such as Sichuan peppers). Our source also mentions that the place will also be a "street fighter cafe" with consoles lining one of the bars in front of TVs where players can compete in street-fighting (and other) tournaments.
