Update: Enormous Room in Cambridge to Be Replaced by Brick and Mortar

[Ed note: This article was updated on November 17 and December 6.]

A popular lounge and music club in the Central Square section of Cambridge is getting ready to close, though the people behind it are planning to bring a new spot to the space next month.

According to Boston Magazine's Chowder blog, The Enormous Room on Mass. Ave. is closing this weekend. Chowder mentions that the night spot, which first opened nearly ten years ago, will be replaced by a "nightclub-related" place, with an expected opening in the middle of November. It appears that Central Kitchen, the restaurant downstairs from The Enormous Room that is owned by the same folks, will remain in business.

[November 17 update: According to Cocktail Virgin, the new spot that is taking the place of The Enormous Room will apparently be called Brick & Mortar. The article mentions that the person behind Brick & Mortar was the founder of the now-closed B-Side Lounge in Cambridge (Lord Hobo currently resides in the former B-Side space, which is on Hampshire Street).]

[December 6 update: According to the Chowder blog of Boston Magazine, Brick & Mortar should be opening within the next month.]

[December 11 update: According to a poster on the Chowhound site, Brick & Mortar is planning to open to the public tomorrow night (Monday, December 12).]

[December 12 update: A call placed to Central Kitchen indicates that Brick & Mortar will not be opening tonight, but it appears that it may open tomorrow evening (Tuesday, December 13). We should have another update tomorrow, so keep checking back with us.]

[December 14 update: Another call placed to Central Kitchen confirms that Brick & Mortar is now open.]

One of the owners of The Enormous Room and Central Kitchen recently opened a new restaurant in Kendall Square called Firebrand Saints.

The address for The Enormous Room (and the upcoming Brick & Mortar) is 569 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02139.
