Tortilleria La Nina Opens in Chelsea

A tortilla bakery is now open in Chelsea, and the person behind it may be familiar to some.

According to The Boston Globe, local chef and restaurateur Jamie Mammano recently opened Tortilleria La Nina on Washington Avenue, bringing to the neighborhood a place to get tortillas made from 100% corn (most tortillas found in the Boston area are made using Maseca, an instant corn masa flour). The article mentions that the tortilla bakery is currently a retail-only business, but Mammano, who comes from such well-known dining spots as Mistral, Mooo, Sorellina, and Teatro (all in Boston) and L'Andana (Burlington), is making plans to get into the wholesale side, so his tortillas will eventually be available in restaurants.

In addition to tortillas--which they make using dried corn, ground lime, and water--Tortilleria La Nina also sells dough for tamales, as well as chips, guacamole, pico de gallo, and tostadas, according to the Globe.

The address for this tortilla bakery in Chelsea is: Tortilleria La Nina, 181 Washington Avenue, Chelsea, MA, 02150.
