Update: DavidsTea Is Coming to the South End of Boston

A chain of tea stores based in Canada may be coming to Boston, though little information is known at this time.

A post from the EveryBlock Boston site indicates that DavidsTea has received a business license to operate a retail store at 661 Tremont Street, with the date on the post being August 31. If the tea shop does indeed open at this spot, it would be the fourth location of DavidsTea in the United States, with the other three being in New York (2) and San Francisco.

[September 10 update: DavidsTea responded to us (via the hiddenboston Twitter page) with this rather cryptic but potentially promising message: "We're not saying that we are [opening a shop in your area]... but from what we've heard, the winter months are a lovely time to visit Boston."]

[September 25 update: It looks like DavidsTea may indeed be coming to the South End, as the BosGuy site states that the chain of tea shops has "signed a letter of intent to lease the storefront at 661 Tremont Street." The post goes on to say that reps from DavidsTea will present their plans for the store on October 3, and that the shop will sell tea by the cup (in addition to loose leaf teas), but probably not any food.]

[March 1, 2013 update: The Tremont Street location of DavidsTea is now open.]

DavidsTea first started out in Montreal (where it is currently headquartered), with its first store opening in Toronto in 2008. Since then, locations of the tea shop have opened across Canada, with approximately 75 outlets found in that country. The stores offer a variety of premium loose leaf teas, including exclusive tea blends.
