Tenoch in Medford Is Opening in Boston's North End

The person behind a Mexican restaurant in Medford is looking to open a second spot, with this one being in the North End of Boston.

The NorthEndWaterfront.com site is reporting that the owner of Tenoch on Riverside Avenue (Alvaro Sandoval) is planning on opening a restaurant at 1-3 Lewis Street in the space where several other businesses have been, including Flamepoeira and Nick's Tavern. The article says that the eatery would have seating for 22 and would apparently be open for lunch and dinner.

The North End / Waterfront Residents' Association (NEWRA) recently gave the proposed spot a supportive vote for a take-out service variance that would allow it to open, according to the article.

[March 18 update: Plans for Tenoch to come to the North End have apparently taken a hit, as a new NorthEndWaterfront.com article states that The North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) has voted against the opening of the restaurant on Lewis Street, with a neighborhood petition opposing the dining spot being presented at the March 11 meeting. [April 10 update: Tenoch is back on track to open in the North End, as NorthEndWaterfront.com says that the Boston Zoning Board of Appeal (ZBA) has approved take-out service for the place, which will allow the restaurant to open in the Lewis Street space.]

[February 6, 2014 update: The Restaurant Hub blog of The Boston Globe mentions that the new location of Tenoch in the North End opens on Monday (February 10).]

Tenoch first opened in Medford in March of 2012, bringing to the city a place to get authentic and affordable Mexican fare. Their website can be found at http://www.tenochmexican.com/
