Restoration Hardware (RH) Opens in Boston's Back Bay; Opening Party Shut Down by Fire and Police Departments

A California-based luxury home furnishings chain held a party for their brand new Boston store last night, but it was shut down early by the city's police and fire departments due to overcrowding.

Universal Hub reports that Restoration Hardware (which is now apparently known as RH) hosted a grand opening party at its location on Berkeley Street in the Back Bay, but more people than the permitted limit in the space led fire inspectors to shut the party down after 8:00 PM. The Boston Business Journal goes on to say that the store went over their temporary occupancy permit by 300 to 400 people (the capacity of the space is 2,000). According to the BBJ, Janet Prensky of the Boston PR firm Aigner/Prensky Marketing Group said (via a Twitter post) that "This will go down as one of the all-time worst planned events in Boston party history."

The new RH in the Back Bay includes a restaurant within its store, with the dining spot reported to be set up on the third floor of the space. Initially, the chain had scrapped plans to open an eatery at the site of the new store, but it ended up opening one after all.

The address for this new home furnishing store and dining spot in the Back Bay is: RH, 234 Berkeley Street, Boston, MA, 02116. The website for the chain is at http://www.restorationhardware.com/
