Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe in the South End of Boston Is Reopening

A landmark restaurant in Boston's South End that closed earlier this summer is going to be opening back up again.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Evan Deluty of Stella in the South End is going to be reopening Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe on Columbus Avenue, with the plan being to keep the breakfast and lunch menu as it was before its closure in late June. The article says that if all goes as planned, the eatery could be open for business once again in the early part of 2015.

[December 17 update: There has been little word of late on the progress of the reopening of Charlie's, but a Twitter photo last night from @kaitkylejohn shows that the interior of the place is "gutted."]

[July 7, 2015 update: Eater Boston mentions (via the City of Boston website) that Charlie's could be one step closer to reopening by later this week, as the city will look at its request for a new common victualler license on Thursday.]

[July 8, 2015 update: DigBoston states that Charlie's hopes to open sometime around Halloween, and that the food and decor will "largely be the same" as it had been before closing.]

[January 20, 2016 update: A tweet from @DigBoston says that Charlie's opens on Friday at 7:00 AM.]

Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe, which first opened in the late 1920s, has had a variety of politicians, professional athletes, singers, and others dine at the place over the years. The dining spot had formerly been run by the Manjourides family.

The address for Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe is 429 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA, 02116.
